Won the 7.30 at Southwell but I am surprised (a) Godolphin wanted the name of Lord Howard de Walden's colt from 30-odd years ago, and (b) it was not protected. Thinking back, I guess he never quite reached the top echelon.

Pursuit Of Love was a favourite of mine back in the day. Trained by Sir Henry of course.

I remember him well as i had a small super yankee bet including him on July Cup day 1992. The other four all won.

POL should have won the big race comfortably but met all kinds of trouble over a furlong out , switched twice by Pat Eddery and just failed to catch Lester on Mr Brooks, got beaten a head. Not Pat's finest hour.

Had POL got up i would have been 4 grand richer, which was an absolute fortune to me back then  Sad

Can anyone confirm the story that Pursuit of Love sired a filly called G Spot or Gee Spot. I think it raced in France and was out of a mare with a name that was something like Hard to Find!!. Might be apocryphal but sure I read it somewhere in an article on allowed and disallowed names. Anyone know?

Funny that as soon as you post, you think of another angle and my French angle was a red herring.  Racing Post only accepts GEESPOT!!  By Pursuit of Love out of My Discovery. She won a couple of races in 2002, Brighton and Lingfield.

Geespot (1999) (f) by Pursuit Of Love out of My Discovery (1999) by Imperial Frontier (1984), rated 48.
No offspring of Geespot in my data.
A Pursuit Of Love was a novel by Nancy Mitford.

POL actually won his next race after the July cup at Deauville, the Group 2 Prix Maurice De Gheest over 6 and a half furlongs ridden by Mick Kinane.
If only Mick had ridden him at Newmarket !

Same horse Penzance at very big prices also on the day 10/1 without marju, worst for me and I’ve never done it since I watched the race from ground level Cauthen 5 lengths clear inside the final furlong nothing coming from behind then all of a sudden I saw a jockeys head go past past right on the stands rail ,it would be in the top 5 on hard to take losers for me Cry
