Thanks for the reply "form of the ace" Moody Blues ffs. You (and I) could have done far better with your apparent argument. I don't want your 50 performers just like you dont want my Radiohead, Stone Roses, Oasis, Blur, Joy Division, Muse, Killers, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Strokes, Stripes, Eminem oh and a couple of Welsh bands that weren't bad. I think you are old!

This "oldie" thread just reminded me. Did anyone on here go to the National Jazz and Blues Festival at PLUMPTON Racecourse in 1969 and 1970. Yes really!!! They are recreating it with tribute bands in August this year. I may go, especially if Steamhammer and Caravan are represented. I do not intend to walk there this time.

Fwiw most of the bands could hardly play their instruments. When The Byrds "recorded" Mr Tambourine Man the producer would only let Roger McQuinn play. Most bands toured and at the same time "their" music was recorded in the studios in their absence (The Beach Boys an example). They later added vocals.
These two (session musicians) were on most hit records recorded in Los Angeles. Hal Blaine (drummer): 35,000 recording sessions; 6,000 singles; 40 USA No 1 hits; 6 USA No 1 hits in a row. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hal_Blaine Carole Kaye (bass guitar): hundreds of records, also TV themes (MASH; The Streets of San Francisco; Mission Impossible) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_Kaye
The session musicians did more than play. They could read music, do arrangements, suggest improvements.
Glen Campbell was a session musician before he became a star. He was an incredible guitarist.

I was merely comparing boy bands to performers with a voice Blackbarn….
My favourites growing up were David Bowie,Eric Clapton,E.L.O. and the Stones…..plus countless other class performers….

Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger, John Densmore, Jim Morrison.
The Doors.
So distinctive, never really heard anyone else like them and Jim was one of the most charismatic (and certainly enigmatic) frontmen ever.
