bbc in melt down over a gold in winter olympics

Quite a few on 'ere would prefer to watch waterboarding

I wasn't really paying attention but when the reporter said...Behind every great man there's an even greater...

Well, with it being the BBC, I suddenly wondered which of the 70+ genders was about to be said...

Answers on a postcard...

To be fair it is the first ever GB gold medal on snow and also the first time team GB has won two golds at the same Winter Olympics.
Could be more to come hopefully.

Takes some doing to be the best whatever your sport

Gold in a competition is extremely rare and difficult to come by. As such, why not esp in the Winter Olympics.

Well done Mr Weston!

Not watched a second of it as it holds no interest to me.
Each to their own

And Miss Bankes/Mr Nightingale as well imp !

Matt Weston is going for another medal in the mixed team skeleton now with Tabby Stoecker, would be great if they could get another medal.

And a THIRD gold for team GB - Weston/Stoecker do it. Matt Weston take a bow, so much to do there and even better they beat two German pairs to win

No one asked if you had Ironside. WAC!!!

Were you born a cretin or did you work at it,Bluebottle?

GB only do
GOLD

Its who we are
MATE!!!

Matt WESTON
SPOTY FAV

He'd be a shoo in for SPOTY if the winter Olympics were in November, could still be a contender though if England crash and burn at the World Cup

No. It's 42. Get with the message

winter Olympics is such a draw even the dole wallers wont watch it in on council house tv

Have put a post up but needs approving by the moderator and all i did use was someones actual name!

To be honest i haven't watched much of it as it seems inappropriate in this day and age, just too much whiteness!
Having said that i do marvel at the skill levels and fitness levels of these athletes especially watching the skiers taking off and landing on rails then travelling backwards over a jump, doing backward somersaults and landing still going backwards, amazing.

stewarts - yes the skill level is incredible. One mistake and you've blown it and years of training go out of the window. That's the pressure many of these are under. It's not the same as being a footballer or cricketer (for instance) where you often have the chance to recover in the match from your errors.

1tp - the reason that many may not watch the games is because of our lack of heritage in winter sports. Obviously our geographical location and climate are not exactly conducive to them (even in Middlesborough )
One sure fire way to get more interested (particularly kids) is the likes of Matt Weston winning gold medals. It will also increase the chances of more facilities being made available for youngsters to actually try out these sports. How we seem to produce medal winners in the Skeleton is beyond me , there is only one push start outdoor track in the UK for athletes to practice on (at Bath Uni).

Seems disappointing to denigrate the BBC for celebrating a home grown winner. The Beeb is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

With the Brexit backing, Reform UK voting, right wing conspiracy theorists that litter this forum why am I at all surprised?

other find winners because they take athletes from all sports and find Olympic sports that best  fit their attributes, lots of these olympians were doing well in other sports and cherry picked to be trained for Olympic events,my mates daughter was a net ball player tall, long legs ,arms and was picked to go to the rowing training centre and turned in to a rower, you've got the drive, fitness will to win they,ll find the  sport that gives you the best chance of becoming an Olympian

Watched it or not, interested or not, doesn't take away the
fact they've achieved something.

The post that the moderator deemed unacceptable to allow was just a joke around an actual persons name so i'll put it differently.

I merely asked if Tabby Stoecker was related to Bradley Walshs' infamous F@ nny Chmelor.

I watched some curling earlier today, some nice young
ladies involved. It used to be a game for old boilers.

Harold!

a curling end takes for ever.never watched it for more than 5 mins , but is the spin of the tea pot handler the equivalent of what side you roll the blas ion,in a gamer of balls ?

or is the handle there just to make therm easier to carry
