rare venture into an OK Corral this morning.  look at the board, Parikarma looks decent at 14's
write bet out. place bet, walk away.  minute later, oi you.  that's gone 14's to 8's.  fair enough glad i wrote 14's on the sjip

no you're on at 8's.  someone must've placed a big bet on it in the 4 seconds it took for you to walk from the screen to the counter.

really ?  have a look at the betting terminal.  it's 14/1.  it's gone 14/1 to 8/1 to 14/1 in under a minute.  and i was just unfortunate enough to place my bet when it was 8's.

how unlucky.

so basically what they were doing was showing 14/1, if anyone had a bet on it they moved the price to 8/1 and translated the bet at that price.  then moved the price back to 14's.  see below.

ladbrokes (sister co) were doing similarly at the same time, so your theory isn't quite right. They are just running a bait n'switch. They do it a lot.

gambling commission objectives

(a)preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder or being used to support crime,

(b)ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open way, and

(c)protecting children and other vulnerable persons from being harmed or exploited by gambling.

enforcement actions and fines a) and c) countless and £100m's in fines

b) no enforcement actions and no fines. The GC has never in 20 years came across any sharp practice worthy of even a public warning.

Oddschecker

The korral trader presumably thinks they aren't available to the public so he's changing the odds away every time a bet comes in thinking nobody can see what he's doing.

Must be a newbie.

it's got nothing to do with "a bet coming in" as ladbrokes are doing it as well with the same prices as coral. It's a deliberate systematic strategy that guarantees bets coming in (as they are the top price) and then rips off those bettors.

Nothing unscrupulous about taking a bet at 14's and then turning round and saying oh by the way that was 8's.  But it's 14's now, and it was 14's when i handed you the slip.

Yeah but ... it's 8's.

As for the "someone must've had a big bet on it as you were walking over from the screen" bullsh!t.  Unbelievable. Laughable ExcitedConfusedBlush

That's obviously a lie and if you accepted 8s, then you have an assertiveness problem

I always thought the large number of price changes now was down to the software linked to the exchanges, that the books now use,to keep prices below the exchanges.
Report hulk23 February 11, 2026 11:38 PM GMT
Maybe. Parikarma was around 15.5/17.0 when Corral clipped it to 8/1.
This sums up bookies, and you trust them to run the exchange fairly?

I also dont get daves assertion that ladbrokes were doing the same thing at the same time.

If you look at the grid there is nothing there for Ladbrokes around 10:13

My bet is timestamped 10:13, which ties in exactly to when all the movement was taking place at Corral in the grid (circled above).  Which i believe means that activity 14 to 8 to 14 to 8 was a direct result of me being in one of their premises and those movements were a direct result of me attempting to back the horse at the advertised price (14/1) and someone at Korral determined to give me 8/1.

I also maintain that whoever was doing it was unaware it would show up quite so obviously on the oddschecker grid.  Possibly thinking he was pulling a fast one without anyone noticing.

How many times are they pulling this kind of stunt and it going unnoticed ??

They always will want their cake and eat it - why would you bother dealing with them? I haven't been into a bookie to place my bets for about 15 years. They won't pull any of their tricks on me ever again. Don't keep feeding them IMO.

365 and Skybet do  this a lot online.I place a bet at say evens and they put a pop up in to say the price is now 4/5. However if I immediately go back to the odds page it is still evens !

Like Stu, I haven't placed a bet in a bookies for 15 years or so, I've popped in when I'm in town in the afternoon to see a race I've had an interest in and their soulless places thesedays. Hulk's experience is mind boggling but that's what bookies(they shouldn't be allowed to call themselves that) have become.

look at 10.18 on your grid. They are clearly using the same scam as are other books. lads and corals are both owned by entain
