fair play to them but what does the quality of the racing  that itv keep banging on about katter   to 95% of those there tonight its just horses running down a track wouldnt matter if it was a 10 runner seller or a  10 runner listed race
Report bettysboy February 6, 2026 6:25 PM GMT
Does it matter - 5000 going to the races, it may not be the future, but it is better than many more initiatives

its pity they couldnt get 70 stalls across the track could have had one 70 runner race at 6 o clock and the horses wouldnt get in the way of the drinking for rest of the night , like watching a hamster clamber around a reel for 3hrs,cant even muster a few cheers from the crowd unless their saving it for a fav going in

Report TELL DEL February 6, 2026 8:28 PM GMT
Can't be old fashioned and traditional, times change and things move on, have to be adaptable to change. Another 5,000 going to the races is a positive. It's like when they started putting on pop concerts after racing,  regularly attracting much larger crowds.

The 3 girls presenters tonight were very good, except they were getting a bit drowned out with the background noise. Agree with bettysboy and being positive about it, this was better than many more initiatives.

Tad incongruent though when amid the throng of clatter of Friday night hormone spike among the young uns, the 'girls' started discussing the cheltenham prospects.
bizzare in the context of the meet.

ITV Opening Show spent a whole 20 seconds on it this Morning, I think that tells you all you need to know.

I recorded as needed to go to the pubLaugh. Flicked through it this morning and found a bit of a waste having presenters as you couldn't hear what they were talking about most of the time(probably not a bad thingLaugh), because of the noise around them. FFS get them a booth or something. Pretty faces appeal to some i suppose.

4builder4, I don't watch much sport but in recent years
they all seem to think it better to have presenters stood
outside, whether it be racing, football or rugby.
It doesn't work for me and I doubt the presenters prefer it.
I used to work on the ITV racing OB unit now and again,
a far from shabby studio on wheels, perfect, and no distractions.

Been racing a few times when these student days take place and don’t have a problem with them yes there noisy but 99.9% of them are polite and well mannered there just young people having a good time ,a recent Newcastle fixture had 4 paying customers which is no good to anyone,I have no doubt some will choose horse racing as an event to return to now that can’t be bad ,for those who don’t approve of them go to another racecourse that said I wouldn’t be surprised if those who criticise like those who criticise Benidorm never actually go.

3 girl students interviewed on Luck on Sunday this morning who went to Newcastle enjoyed the Races, and said they would go racing not on a student day/night.

can only be good for the sport if that is the case.

Did well to get students out of bed before noon on a Sunday morning.

I hate to be the cynical one (not really!), there must be self selection going there. Not three randoms that happened to have gone last Friday.

When Luck introduced the piece, he said let's not worry about what three white men thought about it. Then the three (also white) students appeared. wtf has ethnicity got to do with it Cry

I've no qualm student going horseracing occasionally. What I fear is the students becoming problem gamblers and blowing away their student grants and careers in the future. The bookies are leeches, greedy and cool-blooded. They do not have any morals either, except self-interests and excessive greed.

On the whole they get appeased, too.

Charlotte Head, 29, Samuel Corner, 23, Leona Kamio, 30, Fatema Rajwani, 21, Zoe Rogers, 22, and Jordan Devlin, 31, were cleared on Wednesday of aggravated burglary after Elbit Systems building near Bristol was targeted in a raid in the early hours of 6 August 2024.

If only there was some good evidence.
Report LoyalHoncho February 8, 2026 2:45 PM GMT
You have to wonder about our court systems nowadays.  In so many cases of civil vandalism nowadays cold, reasoned logic of verdict simply does not seem to apply.
Report Cider February 8, 2026 3:04 PM GMT
This outcome (and some others) are even more concerning, as this was a jury trial. If you get a jury that includes fellow travellers, then it can result in injustice.

And it will only get worse, as this is part of their education/brainwashing. And these types achieve positions of real power. For example, I am absolutely sure that the CPS is corrupted in what it chooses to prosecute, and what it will choose to ignore.

Jury trials are the bedrock of some faith in the system. We aren't that far away from it all falling apart.
Report Cider February 8, 2026 3:09 PM GMT
In the old left/right divide, of course there were fundamental/ideological differences. But you could still be pretty sure of getting a fair judgement from a random jury. Now it seems they will look at hard evidence of people taking a sledgehammer to a female cop, breaking her back, and letting them off, as the greater cause justified it.
