Sadly, like so many in the betting game, now living on past glories. 'Top earner in 2007'.

Only 19 years ago!! A

Although these intwerviews can be very interesting and fair play to Simon for his work on them, I still say the most successful punters (and there are not many of them) go totally under the radar..
Report uptheirons February 3, 2026 10:16 PM GMT
Who would go on there and give a working edge away?
At least Jerry White is amusing nonsenseLaugh

Explaining how you do something doesn't always mean it can be replicated by someone else.

The other aspect is that, as is the case with most things in life, not much stays the same. I could tell Simon how I once collected at 17 different bookmakers on a royal wedding! It may or may not be an interesting tale, but those circumstances will never, ever, be replicated. And not just because of Andrew's shenanigans Grin

I am deeply reclusive, and don't like people generally, so it would never happen anyway. Just used the example to help demonstrate the point.

Thanks for your concern GC - I'm still around and I'm fine.

Recently back from Winter trip and I will probably continue to read a few threads between events (out of boredom) - but even that feels like a bad habit, so generally I intend to use my time on things that are a bit more beneficial and productive. GL.

The fourth part is up, for all of you concerned about 'past glories' I'm guessing you've all heard about at least one of the horseracing coups Marty was involved in, you couldn't get a bigger hint than the one he drops in this last part. I'm always open to potential interviewee suggestions, serious ones get in touch. Thanks for all the comments.

You didn't address the highest European poker earner in 2007issue.

What's the point of these interviews if you don't check what is claimed is true.
Report wingerwanger February 5, 2026 1:35 PM GMT
JML - If you check Wikipedia you'll see where I got that info - if you listened to the interview it's all pretty irrelevant as a lot of the prize money gets split etc. I always like to look on the positive, so if that's the biggest fault you could find with an hours worth of chat with one of the UK's best gamblers, I'll take it as a compliment. Thank You.
Report JML February 5, 2026 1:58 PM GMT
I've already looked at the Wiki page--you seemed to have ignored the "better source needed" part.

UK's best gamblers   What's the proof for this claim? Did he show you any profit figures from any accounts.

revered by the cleverest in the game Who are the cleverest in the game?

So lying and unfounded claims is the new positive.

The type of person who would take part in these interviews are the same type that would exaggerate any successes.

Sniping from the cheap seats is de rigueur these days, should be completely ignored. I generally enjoy Simon's interviews a lot and all three of the people I know who have done them are accurate afaik. Individuals who put a positive spin on their achievements is nothing unusual, some of them even claim to have been employed as economists!
Report JML February 5, 2026 8:39 PM GMT
Who the F*ck are you to criticize me for querying something I wasn't sure of.

It all right for you--you're an expert on every single subject, never been wrong in in over 67,000 posts.

But I'm still learning and when I asked about the poker winnings there was a posability that the claim was correct
because in those days some people were winning millions online in head to head games.

Bringing some entertainment to your miserable life does not give him the right to post anything he likes without question.
Report Cider February 5, 2026 9:03 PM GMT
As we've learned recently, personal claims are not forensically interrogated at the highest level of government, so expecting that from a light hearted betting podcast type affair is a bit, shall we say, unreasonable. Yes, the priority for these types of interviews is entertainment. Otherwise, not many people will view them, which defeats the object of producing them.

My life certainly isn't miserable, and I'm definitely not always right, but it is fun pushing a unhinged button from time to time.

You never stop learning JML, no shame in conceding that.

I always like listening to Simon's interviews but I'm amazed that folk thought that this latest one was anywhere near the best ?

What did the interview tell us that we didn't already know ?

I could be wrong but I think this Irish chap used to refer himself as "Mad Marty" when everybody in the poker world used that name for the proper "Mad Marty", the Brummy guy who was a great character but we sadly lost a few years ago, a red flag for me that.

As somebody has already said above, I'd imagine most of the genuine successful gamblers go under the radar.
