Don't really know what to make of that

Sketchy jumper in that ground
Report CROPSICK February 2, 2026 3:01 PM GMT
Townend coming wide cost the mare the race.

Townend a crook
Report duffy February 2, 2026 3:04 PM GMT
Don't think he's a 2 miler, you could see he was just on the edge of going as fast as he was comfortable with, on better ground at the festival I'd expect him to be taken off of his feet, don't think he'll run in the Arkle now, and with Final Demands poor run yesterday the longer race is more appealing.
Report Big muff February 2, 2026 3:04 PM GMT
Best horse finished 2nd there.
Report Storm Alert February 2, 2026 3:05 PM GMT
RC seemed to get tired in that ground. Assuming it doesn't leave a mark will take a look at it if running at Cheltenham.
Report uptheirons February 2, 2026 3:15 PM GMT
The horse clearly needs further

2 mile or 3 mile?

neither look ideal at this stage

Report duffy February 2, 2026 3:44 PM GMT
I've been helping myself to the 20/1 on the Sportsbook for the longer race, that's massive IMO, he's single figures everywhere else, maybe WAR...whatever!!

If he doesn't run so be it.
Report LoyalHoncho February 2, 2026 5:12 PM GMT
G/L with it duffy.
Report MJK February 2, 2026 6:56 PM GMT
Gordon still swaying towards the Arkle apparently as they dont think its a deep race this year. His interview immediately after the race wouldn't have suggested this. The owner though didnt seem as convinced that the horse should go for the longer race so maybe thats the reason. Interesting few days ahead.
Report wondersobright February 2, 2026 7:52 PM GMT
surely depend on ground conditions
Report MJK February 2, 2026 7:58 PM GMT
Yeah it would seem so at this stage. Though Gordon definitely seemed straight after today's race to want to go for the longer race at Cheltenham either way.
Report Bentring February 2, 2026 8:01 PM GMT
Runs in Arkle an wins without kopek des bordes, nothing across the river will beat it
Report wondersobright February 2, 2026 8:09 PM GMT
if soft ground hard to see RC being off the board
Report wondersobright February 2, 2026 8:09 PM GMT
in the arkle
Report wondersobright February 2, 2026 8:10 PM GMT
he looks hard work but the run in big big idle up suggested he had loads left today...v encouraging for future targets
Report FOYLESWAR February 2, 2026 8:43 PM GMT
the arkle is approx a furlong shorter than todays race ,looked like romeo needed every yard ,may still have enough toe but food for thought
Report sageform February 3, 2026 7:27 AM GMT
I thought that Kargese would have won if she had jumped the last.

Report duffy February 3, 2026 4:48 PM GMT
He was going as fast as he could there on heavy ground and it took him forever and a day to get past Irish Panther on decent ground, as foyles points out the Arkle is over even shorter on likely decent ground, whatever they call it, we've seen two pieces of evidence that at least suggests he'll be taken off his feet, jogging around in the longer race it's just a case of deciding whether he will stay or not as it's very likely he'll be too quick for those horses.

He's won the Drinmore over 20f, a race won practically entirely by staying horses and he was a little sticky early on in that race but the further they went the better he went and at the line was a very easy winner.

Very interesting post.  I admit most such obs. don’t instantly occur to me but they make perfect sense.
irons post about Venetia’s being very well handicapped as a result of the long, poor run of stable form, voiced on Racing TV by a co-commentator today.  They must read this forum!  Wink
Report sageform February 4, 2026 11:48 AM GMT
They are only well handicapped if they recover their old form. They might but I won't be backing then any time soon.
