The unpredictable weather in the UK gives racing a well needed break.

There is far too much racing and ultimately horse racing will pay the price. We don't need racing every day.

Dry since about 9am in London. Sunny and breezy so Sandown has every chance I would have thought. Good bit of rain forecast overnight though. Very rare you see Heavy in the going description for the chase course.

Leopardstown will inspect again at 8am on Saturday to determine whether day one of the Dublin Racing Festival can take place as planned.

Major efforts at the course earlier in the week saw large areas of standing water cleared away, with conditions reportedly drying back to 'yielding to soft' on the chase course by Thursday afternoon.

However, torrential overnight rain in the area had put officials on red alert all over again, and a Friday afternoon inspection was called. While the track was raceable by early afternoon, with more rain forecast, officials will check again in the morning.

Sandown passed a Thursday morning inspection and the original card including hurdle races is set go ahead as scheduled, although a 7:30am Saturday morning check is planned.

The ground is 'soft, heavy in places' on the chase course and 'heavy, soft in places' on the hurdles track, with a band of rain expected to arrive on Friday evening with more showers forecast for raceday itself.

Day one of the Dublin Racing Festival has been cancelled following 17mm of overnight rain.

The track was passed fit for racing on Friday lunchtime but an 8am inspection was called with more rain forecast.

Sadly it materialised, rendering the surface unraceable. Saturday's card now moves to Monday with an 8am inspection called for Sunday's fixture there.

Wetherby was also abandoned after failing an 8am inspection.

Bit surprised about Wetherby when all of the attention has been on heavy rain in the south. Musselburgh still saying good/soft. Sandown will be very heavy in the straight which is hard work anyway with the slope.

I’ll be surprised if Warwick race tomorrow. I’m 3 miles away and it’s lashing down again.

Plumpton have stated that the course is currently raceable and are "very confident" of racing going ahead on Monday.

Great news.
