He should win today but what evidence makes people so sure he is a superstar? His last 3 hurdle runs were:
Juvenile Hurdle beating Kargese whose best rating is 148
Fighting fifth as a 4yo beating Lump Sum best rating 148
Xmas Hurdle beating Golden Ace, an admirable mare but top rated OR of 152.
Hardly Grade 1 opposition other that Golden Ace who is a huge favourite of mine but has been fortunate to win a CH and a Fighting Fifth. I can't see another Grade 1 rival today as The New Lion has not won out of novice company or over 2 miles over hurdles!
It is a very weak division now but I would not back Sir Gino for the CH. He would need to beat The New Lion 20 lengths fair and square to change my mind.

not my kind of race for betting purposes and sir gino should win but a few thoughts ,could there be a bounce factor ?,we dont know if or what the new lion would have found if he had not fallen last time . may have ended up an easy winner and champion hurdle fav or may have found nothing and well btn . who knows ? market looks to have it right !

I think 1.50 is a fair price but no certainty. The New Lion is no mug and don't forget the amateur point to point rider up top.

Then again, I was standing right next to the rail by the pre-parade ring, while Ken P prefers to stand several feet away up the steps, looking down on the horses. Maybe they look different from up there.

Hendo is talking too much too soon again. Why give an uodate on Sir Gino so soon after the event? I can still remember what happened about another "star" of his post an injury. The horse did not make it after seemingly was improving and comfortable soon after an injury.
However, I do hope Hendo's upbeat update is accurate and not too premature this time. Sir Gino did not deserve to miss another Cheltenham similar to last year.
