THE PERTEMPS NETWORK MAIDEN HURDLE RACE (CLASS 4) (Novices' Championship Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB RACE)
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of KADO SACREE (FR), ridden by Robert Dunne and trained by Olly Murphy which was settled towards the rear of the field before being hampered by a faller at the first hurdle, causing the gelding to stumble. KADO SACREE (FR) then travelled in rear throughout the race before staying on at the one pace to finish sixth of sixteen runners, beaten 20 ¾ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race on two occasions and had nothing to report. The rider stated his instructions were to settle the gelding three quarters of the way back through the field, getting the gelding to finish his race and obtain the best possible position. Dunne explained that he was hampered by the faller at the first hurdle, a fact that he had reported at scales, before holding his position at the rear of the field and asking his mount for an effort following the third last flight of hurdles. He further explained he felt that following a strong gallop throughout the race, he was staying on at the one pace and passing tiring horses, before his mount began to tire approaching the second last flight of hurdles with him then riding KADO SACREE (FR) out hands and heels to the line. The trainer confirmed these instructions and explained that he was satisfied with KADO SACREE (FR)’s performance on this occasion after the gelding had failed to see it’s race out on it's previous run at Lingfield and stated they may explore a step up in trip in the future. Their explanations were noted.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of DONTELIMURNAMEPIKE, ridden by Ryan Mania and trained by Ruth Jefferson, which was ridden towards the rear of the field and stayed on strongly after jumping the final flight of hurdles to finish fifth beaten by 21 ¼ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Handicapper offered observations and the Veterinary Officer examined the gelding post-race during routine testing and found no abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to ride the horse in a handy position and ride the race as he found it and to obtain the best possible placing; he was also mindful that DONTELIMURNAMEPIKE has previously ran out and as such wanted to get his mount jumping well. Mania explained that going out on the away bend he found his mount to be struggling with the ground and losing his position as a result, he added that he was encouraging his mount to travel better going down the back straight and as the pace weakened entering the bend leaving the back straight he was then able to tack onto the rear of the field. Mania finalised by explaining that he didn’t want to resort to the use of his whip and rode his mount out hands and heels passing weakening horses to obtain in his opinion the best possible placing. The trainer confirmed the instructions but expressed reservations in that DONTELIMURNAMEPIKE was ridden further towards the rear than she had anticipated. Mania was suspended for 10 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing in that he failed to demonstrate sufficient effort from after jumping the second last hurdle.
The Clerk of the Scales reported that Ryan Mania, the rider of DONTELIMURNAMEPIKE, unplaced, trained by Ruth Jefferson, had weighed in at 11 Stone 4lbs, having weighed out at 11 Stone. The rider, the trainer and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed. Mania was suspended for 1 day for weighing in at more than 2lb overweight.
