Matt Chapman, one of racing's most recognisable broadcasters, saw his company fold with debts of more than £339,000, including £178,000 owed to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
Grey Lane12 Limited, renamed from Matt Chapman Racing Limited on January 27 last year, was put into voluntary liquidation in March. Three days before the name change, Chapman, 54, had incorporated a new company, Yeeehaaa Broadcasting Limited, of which he is the sole director. A statement of affairs published on Companies House on March 17 showed Chapman's former company owed £339,106.65, including £97,500 to Funding Circle, £31,606.65 to Barclays Bank and £29,500 in unsecured credit card debt, alongside the six-figure sum to HMRC. An update on the liquidation is expected later this year. A frontline reporter on ITV Racing and Sky Sports Racing, Chapman entered into an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) last June that will allow him to pay down a portion of what is owed over a fixed period, usually between five and six years, before being discharged from the binding agreement. Grey Lane12 Limited was established as Matt Chapman Racing Limited in April 2017, the same year Chapman began broadcasting on terrestrial television for the first time as part of ITV’s new team covering British racing. Chapman was hired as ITV Racing’s betting reporter and presenter, but has since progressed to a more general reporting role, as well as occasionally hosting The Opening Show, a Saturday morning racing preview programme. Alongside appearing on ITV and Sky Sports Racing, Chapman writes regular articles for The Sun and hosts a podcast called Unbridled. He is also an ambassador for Paddy Power, including appearing in the bookmaker’s raceday adverts on ITV alongside anthropomorphised horses. An IVA can have long-term impacts on an individual’s credit rating, as well as holding the person to a strict budget and payment schedule while the agreement with creditors is in place. In a statement on behalf of Chapman, his solicitors Mishcon de Reya said: "These matters relate to Mr Chapman's financial affairs – over which there is, rightly, no allegation of wrongdoing – and the process started some time ago at the end of 2024. "These matters have nothing to do with horseracing, gambling or Mr Chapman's employment. The figures have been public for many months, and Mr Chapman is up to date with his repayments to creditors under the arrangement." Read these next: |

Too smart to owe a Bookmaker like McFatso did

Will he appear on ITV tomorrow?

Of course.
These "knockers" have no shame |

Interesting to see how ITV respond
Didn't the BBC ditch Angus Loughran for similar? |

We shall see,paris.

They didn't dump 'Ant' for drink driving and crashing into a young family's car, I suspect standards expected of those in public life have somewhat diminished.

A sabbatical is quite possible.

What has that got to do with Chapman?

We know how they responded to something far worse (from an itv presenter)

I suspect that ITV do not possess any principles

Most contracts of this nature have a disrepute clause.
Why would you think this 'news' should concern ITV. MC is not employed to share tax or business advice. |
|
By:
I suspect that ITV do not possess any principles
praps not, but to answer the question posed, 'we' can draw from recent benchmarks. as I stated, standards expected from these types aren't what they once were. If you can be blind drunk and drive into a car carrying children, and not be dumped, an unrelated limited business going t1ts up shouldn't pose too many issues. |

It's not just ITV.
The BBC allowed Lineker to criticise the Government when he was a Football Presenter |
|
By:
It is a bit curious in regard to why it's gone pear shaped, one assumes the business has not suffered a radical reduction of inflows recently.

I agree uti. Society in general in my opinion has evolved for the worse. There is far less accountability for wrongdoers, from wrongdoers themselves and in some cases their employers, family et al.
We saw a very public recent example from a police chief, corrupt and incompetent. This is not unique to the story outlined on this thread. Debts especially are now just seen as bumps in the road to manage, it's very common now for people to be able to effectively walk away from their responsibilities. You'd be amazed at what OR's will allow. For example holidays can be budgeted for. |

does hmrc not have more power than plod? ive heard so
so how do people run up such huge debts to them and not get collared long before they becone someone elses problem? seems rife theres an idiot in these parts who owes them 600k after years taking bogus invoices from builders and rinsing the vat. how is he not in jail, where he belongs? the landlord of the worst pub in the vicinty got pulled in to explain his lack of takings compared to costs. he was using a 'white' pdq card to hide his income, and only the bank snitching got him caught looking at a fine but still got away with it for 10 years there seems little downside to dishonesty. i m feeling a bit of fomo |

HMRC have powers. But the debt already exists at that point.
How many entities still have bounce back 'loan' liabilities. I suppose that could be one of the lines on that list. Backed by the taxpayer. |
