I cannot see both of them will turn up for this gig. The ground would be softer than soft on Saturday. As such, who'll do a runner between these two? The more likely candidate would be Sir Gino, I expect.

The New Lion at 2/1 here is an enterprising bet.

Sir Gino will win and a Lion will come 2nd, but not The New Lion

I got the impression The New Lion was cooked when falling in the fighting 5th, Nemean Lion can pick up the pieces for 2nd on saturday

I hope everyone shows up. I hope everyone comes back safely and unhurt. A day left for any last minute switcheroo.

I'll not be watching it live. I'll be elsewhere. Good luck backers.

I've just realised Sir Gino is conceding 3lbs to The New Lion. I think the ground turning heavy (presently soft) may be more of an inconvenience than the weight concession to Sir Gino.

How many of these '2 horse' races end up with an outside winning or splitting them.

The new Lion for me....

I think the minute someone screams "CERT!" or "this cannot be beaten" I also run for the hills....should be a cracking race either way.

My reasoning for backing TNL wS because I didnt think Sir Gino's hurdling was very efficient LTO. Now I know that can happen a horse first time back hurdling but today before the pull up I thought the horse was hesitant when they went away from the stands. Thankfully it seems he walked into the ambulance so thats a positive anyhow. Hopefully he'll be ok. I got the impression that Skelton wouldn't have been too worried if he'd lost that as TNL would get further but he was happy to let it turn into a sprint. It seems the general consensus is a negative for TNL after that. I would be the opposite and say it was a good performance under the circumstances.

It was a perfectly adequate run with no pace and only two 150 rated horses to beat but it didn't tell us much. Nemean Lion and Brentford Hope both have good speed but they are 20 lengths behind a CH winner at a proper racing pace.

I thought it once again suggested TNL would need a serious test of stamina at the trip to have any chance of winning, he took forever to run past a pair of 3 milers in the longer novice last year and he took forever to run past another stayer today who's had a hard race in between and he was arguably getting caught out for toe in the FF when he came down where, and taking a bit of artistic licence into account he's pretty much run to the pound with Nemean Lion who'd be a million for a CH.

Before the season begun the concern regarding TNL with regards the CH was whether he was a real 2 miler or not or whether he'd be caught out for toe, what we've seen from him so far has only increased that concern rather than allaying it IMO.

Very sad what happened to Sir Gino. I hope he recovers from this injury as a pet. The others in the race are not Champion Hurdle materials unless fate intervenes again.
