Got an interesting runner tomorrow at Sandown in 3.10 Sole Solution currently 20/1 with PP & BF for four places. Course winner on heavy over 2m 4f on the same card last year. Out quickly after a run 9 days ago, cheek pieces applied and Ned Fox taking off a useful 5lb and OR back down to 1lb from last winning rating.

Interesting.  Very competitive field for Sole Solution.

Agreed but liked 4 places at 20/1 but I had on what they would let me and they cut it to 14/1!

I can’t now remember the names of the horses but fifty years ago approx.  Josh Gifford was having a very similar, desperate run then incredibly, one Saturday, it all turned around with a 33/1 winner and another shorter priced.  No rhyme nor reason to it.

She is always so thoroughly dignified when interviewed but last weekend the carefully applied mask slipped ever so slightly and the pressure revealed itself.  Good luck to her.

Trusty made a good point 23 Jan about Venetia having some well handicapped horses when the stable recovers. It was repeated today without a nod to the first post.

As previously noted helped myself to 20/1 4 places Sole Solution on Thursday for the pittance the bookies allow you to have on, would certainly not be backing it at 10/1. If the stable had shown any form at all, all three would have reasonable chances.

Charming lady Venetia, operates a straight stable. Really hope the jinx lifts soon and, as has been pointed out here, her now well-handicapped stalwarts soon start hitting the jamstick!

Another half dozen losers and in the last race her runner was backed to 1.38 I/R but like all the others couldn't finish the race off.

that one ran well though Trusty, made all the running til headed just before the last. The winner finished full of running after looking beat turning in. So at least a glimmer of hope for Venetia.

Could it be argued L'Homme Presse has been the yard flag bearer during these barren times?  Giving Hait Coleur two pound beaten seven lengths, giving Spillane Tower five pound beaten less than a length, not bad form given an animal that may well have been under perfoming like the rest of the yard, big disparity in prices for the big one come March maybe... had a tenner on @ 140 just in case...

Venetia has one entered for the Eider next weekend I see, had a play at 26... plenty of runners this week it would seem, be interesting to see how the chasers in particular perform, cheers...

Apart from that initial spurt and 3 from 3 on 18th Feb, next 16 runners have all performed rather badly, many being a shorter price than they should have been.

The explanation could be that Venetia has a lot of very moderate horses this year. Only Djelo, Royal Pagaille and LHomme Presse performed at a high level last season and they are either getting old or having to race at Graded level.

I think this has a lot of merit

I cant think of many good young novices she has; the supply chain has dried up.

Shame because I rate Charlie Deutsch as one of the top 3 NH jockeys - He could ride for a much more powerful yard in my opinion. I think Paul Nichols should be considering him, but hey, its just my opinion.

Talking of golden oldies I was interested to see the yards' Funambule Sivola has got an entry in the Plate... not run for two years and is now 11, was quite highly tried back in the day albeit beaten some wide margins... now on a mark of 136, thought would of gotten in to the Plate with ease given last years' bottom weight was 127... but no, number 43 in the list... nevertheless I've had a play at 100/1 ew NRNB... might sneak in at the bottom with others entered elsewhere, if not, no harm done...

Certainly don't agree on Charlie Deutsch. He looks good on some of Venetia's because he rides them at home but I have watched him on outside rides and he is awful.

Morning sage, I wouldn't say he's awful, perhaps just a journeyman jockey,one of many...but it's all about opinions

Morning Reg, enjoying the sun and sea? Charlie is probably an adequate horseman but his race craft leaves a lot to be desired. Often pushed wide on bends, out of his ground at crucial moments etc. Like Nico, it is easier to look good on very good horses. They all have their good and bad points but I rate Sam T-D as good as any.

I like this young Ben Jones lad, definitely champion jockey in the next few years when he gets the gig at a bigger stable....imo
