top 3 in the betting take out a huge chunk of the market no suprise if any of the 3 win but which one ? hard to see gaelic warrior getting an easy lead here if he does he will be hard to beat but this should be a different test to last time may still win but too short for me ,fact to file a similar price and not a lot between the pair but both may have had a hard race last time .jango baei has to prove he gets the trip but is improving and may be suited by how the race is run . jukebox man lightly raced over fences and improving has room for plenty of improvement but taking  on  a better class of opponent here . djelo has been found lacking in grade 1s but could play a part and has drifted to a big price on here.  a few who seem to have been overlooked are last years 1-2 banbridge and il est francais who on their last runs have no chance but both are way better than that , il est francais is a bit in and out but is very good on his day  and has cobden up his win in the kauto star  here as a novice shows this type of test suits . last years winner banbridge is suited by a fast pace has plenty of exp and prob needed his debut run this season that should have set him up for this and he also looks a big price imo.
selections il est francais 18/1  firms and banbridge 16/1 both should be a good bit bigger on here which is where i will play win bets .
good luck opinions encouraged.

Unless you bet ante post a long time before, almost all horse prices on Betfair drift from the time they are first posted until 5 minutes before race time when a couple will plummet in price after you have backed a drifter and often one of those two wins. Bet when they have gone a furlong or jumped an obstacle. The body language of the horses can be a huge help.

Unlucky Foyles, ran a cracker at the price, jango could not cope with the 10lb penalty of Quixall even though Jukebox shrugged of Impossible. Great race if not the best KG ever run, that said I suspect the form is going to hold up better than most KGs. The winner and 4th will imo be as close in the GC should they run, more so than the 2nd and 3rd who will finish behind both at Chelt imo?
Report duffy December 26, 2025 5:25 PM GMT
I'd take Jango out of the race for the GC, it didn't strike me as being strongly run and he looked to me to shape like an out and out stayer who got tapped for toe, reckon he will really appreciate the GC trip and be really strong late.

I could go through this race for a week and get it miles wrong, however I much prefer a race like this where near any of the field could win.

I adore Fact To File, and as much as either Gaelic Warrior, Fact To File, Il Est Francais or Banbridge cannot be classed as the old guard I just have a sneaky feeling for two new faces on the block.

It is incredibly guessy and a real stab in the dark but for a fun bet I will be playing a rev forecast on Jango Baie and The Jukebox Man.

A race I really want to enjoy rather than worry or sweat over. Should be a cracker. Be lucky all.

Close but no Cigar......What a race!!
Report Hibore December 26, 2025 6:22 PM GMT
I’m not surprised it was a fast time. Steady pace till they headed for home with 4-5 horses all quickening together. Almost perfect conditions to break course records when you throw in good ground conditions.

Fact to file was the only real disappointment as never really seemed to be travelling at any stage.

Not sure we really had too many clues for Gold Cup and which horses would relish that test. You can put a line through Banbridge after last year so what does beating him short head over 3miles at Kempton tell you ?

I do not think connections of Inothewayurthinkin and Galopin Des Champ (if sound) will be overly concerned. I think the only race for Fact To File will be the Ryanair at Cheltenham.

It wasn't strongly run through-out, they quickened up in the final half mile or so but turning in 2 lengths covered the whole field and barely a length seperating the first four home at the line backs up that it wasn't a thorough staying test at the trip and Cobden would in no way have set a break neck gallop on a bleeder, the ground helped with the record, this race was marginally in front of the novice race for the majority of the race, Jango for me going forward, blame the jockey if you want and he may have been caught out expecting the others to fall into his lap but he looks like a real stayer IMO.

You assume people are only going by whatever commentator says. I watched the race on mute and they've clearly gone a steady gallop. There's no way would so many have been in contention turning in if they hadnt. I don't see how the race can be the fastest ever 3 mile chase ran at Kempton, and not be well run. Sure, the very quick going made it less of a stamina test, but not a lack of pace.

Presumably because the friendly nature of the ground allowed them to finish so well up the straight, imagine if they ran 3 miles downhill, the final part of the race when they would be really going for it would allow them to be "relatively" sprinting and able to make up a stack of time against the clock, that's an exaggeration but the principle is the same, the test provided today Kitzbuel was 2 seconds behind so he's one of the quickest ever too on the same day.

If they had gone in any way hard through the race they'd have been more strung out with stamina limitations exposed way earlier than we saw happen, and besides that it just looked staeady to the eye.

Out of curiosity thought I'd note the speed of the leader approaching every fence.

It's notable that big injection of pace came from Ben Jones right at the end of the back straight. The bit between 31 and 35. The speedo peaked at 36 in the straight, and it was 34 right on the line. Notable perhaps it was 33 then 34 right on the line, that was the winner coming through.

So it was just over half a mile out Jones turned on the taps.

I just enjoy the comments from people who thought it was a slow run race because something wasnt clear of the field.

It was a proper race and only turned into a sprint over the last 2 because the ground helped all.

Reckon the winner would beat them all again over 3m2f at cheltenham. the 4th was looking the winner but needs more practice at staying and riding.

Report duffy December 26, 2025 11:39 PM GMT
I think you can have a steadily run race wthout something being clear if the ones in behind were happy with it not developing into a proper stamina test, bit like today really! Il est Francais can no longer be ridden like he was when he first came on the scene because of his issues, he must be ridden within himself

That's why it could have been steadily run without something going clear.....the fact that they looked like 5f srinters from the last to the line was a bit of a clue also.Wink

This is Kevin Blakes take and I've seen a couple others similar but this just about sums it up.

The possibility that the pace might not be as strong as seemed to be widely assumed was flagged in my preview of the race and that is what transpired. With all of the issues that Il Est Francais has had with breaking blood vessels, his connections evidently didn’t want to ask him to go any faster than he had to in front, but it was surprising that none of the others opted to pick up the running and inject some pace. The end result was a sprint for home with the well-positioned winner recording an Finishing Speed Percentage of 111.7%.
Report Cider December 26, 2025 11:59 PM GMT
It wasn't flat out but not a dawdle either. They had to stay 3 miles well to win that race. My observation from the speed is that they were slowing down after the last. It went from 35 to 33, with the winner ticking it up to 34 on the line.

I suppose it comes down to what people consider a staying test. If they go quick early and finished tired, is that a staying test. Or if they are hitting top pace before the straight, effectively a long drawn out sprint after going a decent lick for 2.5 miles, it that a staying test?

You probably won't get a race ran much more efficiently than that one. I feel like it was a test of stamina, but nothing near a slog or a pace collapse.
Report elise December 27, 2025 10:21 AM GMT

As there was no Home Schooling on the Opening Show I’ll set you all some for today! Laugh

I recommend people watch back the Four Group 1’s from Sha Tin to see how viral race positioning IS.

In those races, Ka Ying Rising, Voyage Bubble and Romantic Warrior all jumped quickly and were able to sit and save energy throughout saving enough for the end. Yes they are class horses but the rides given made it so much easier for them.

That is what happened with the beautiful one yesterday, the ride was excellent, because of his smooth passage he was able to save enough despite his worst jump at the last.

The likes of Banbridge and Jango had their chances and came with their runs, they let down and flattened out because the winner saved having travelled best throughout.

With 5 to jump Gaelic & Jango were in line behind the Juke. At that fence Gaelic put in a big jump he was positioned well with a gap between The Juke and IEF but he lost that and more than a length +  at the 4th fence with a low jump. That left Jango in clear third, Towened then had to sit behind The Juke turning as Hoiles said he applies some pressure to IEF as , “heads turn for home”.

At this point Jango has no excuse whilst Townend waited for the straight to regain the rail. The effort to get back on terms cost him but he was staying on and looks an Chelt type to keep going up that hill and had his ears pricked as did the winner crossing the line.

I suspect Townend curses that mistake which meant he lost his position from 4 out, it’s all about margins. Great ride from Jones.

Their jockey Paul Townend thinks it can be achieved.
