Flagged this up after his seasonal debut and he did even better last time. Typically, I wasn't on at 50/1 as I thought he had looked a handicap project. He was ridden with more restraint and finished nicely. It looked as if he would stay further, but it is essentially a flat pedigree. You would like to see the stable in a bit better form, but it's not as if winning chances are being squandered. Cobden booked - is that a positive, or a red herring? He is a scopey sort who jumps well, so I would be concerned if he is strangled. I thought 28/1 was much too big, and the market is beginning to reflect that view. Those ahead of him in the market don't look that great, so if he stays he should be very competitive. Fingers crossed.

Big mover 28/1-8/1. Now shorter than what even I expected. Lots of weakness at the top of the market.

Henderson has run 15 in this race in the last 10 years and has not had one winner. 5 places achieved. Will be laying Crystal Island at 9/4 or better. GL with WHV also caught my eye with Cobden booked. 20/1 on here again.

Seems strange how a horse can go 28/1-8/1 (even shorter in places) and then bounce back out such that it is now too big again. I would have said 12/1 was about right. Can only assume those who wanted to get on are already on at the bigger prices and bookmakers are now taking nothing.

why would jockey coach not want a horse at ascot to race against the rail after the last ?, according to fitzy if anything you want to steer a horse away from the rail, REALLY ?

Thanks

Three place bets landed, but one of these days it would be nice to land the lot. That's probably as good as he is at moment, but it was still a very strange ride from Cobden. At a few the points the jock looked awkward on him, and when looking to be travelling well only a few lengths off, he inexplicably lost 4 or 5 places for no obvious reason. After that third was the best on offer.

Crystal looked a quirky sort to me.  Didn’t notice Cobden doing much wrong but the horse looked truculent more than  once, jumped poorly at another losing several positions and swerved noticeably on run in.

Made a few quid out of backing this horse at big prices in good races. Unlucky not to finish closer last time. Different scenario tomorrow. On form he should win 10 lengths plus, but he is a great big chasing type, and this will be much the quickest ground he has encountered. I hope he wins, but I wouldn't entertain the 10/11 for those reasons.
