From OP's link to The Sun:-

A MAN believed to be Britain’s biggest romance fraudster has been jailed after he conned multiple women out of £1m.

Nigel Baker swindled five single mums he found on dating apps to take out huge loans and sell their homes to feed his gambling.

GC fines incoming for failure to conduct proper source of funds checks? Or for enabling an addict?

Would have thought its the banks at fault in a case like this?
Report howard December 18, 2025 10:47 AM GMT
"Records show that a Betfair account set up by one of his victims – a successful and wealthy businesswoman – had total losses of nearly £4million."

He told the women that he was an online bookie and could make money to fund their future together if they gave him money to “trade” with on betting platforms.

The court heard he told the women there was “zero risk” to their money, as he was not a gambler but a bookie.

If you're a loser - you'll get restricted to £100/month thanks to people like this guy (& Betfair).

A lot of women fall hook line and sinker without even knowing what the individual looks like….

They keep getting advice any mention about finances it’s automatic block…..

“ but I loved him “ zzzzzzzz

TM you seem to be saying that you have to be a lifetime loser on here to get restricted to £100 a month deposits.  It really is about your current income nothing else.
Report abba21 December 18, 2025 11:39 AM GMT
Where does it tell you have much you can bet a month as to what you earn?

Not 100% saying that howard - but the vast majority with deposit limits will be lifetime losers.

As I've said previously - why are winners needing to make deposits?

There's a few reasons winners might have an issue with deposit limits - but it's hard to have a lot of sympathy as they either must have had their heads firmly planted in the sand these past 4/5 years or they don't understand the relationship between their own staking/variance.

So maybe ill-disciplined winners have an issue with deposit limits? - but ill-disciplined winners is a bit of an oxymoron (imo).

Well if what your saying is true ,it s not working the way government wants it to work .so are they going to be able to still fleece new and young customers .Surely restriction should be put on everyone the same way.
Report howard December 18, 2025 12:02 PM GMT
why are winners needing to make deposits?   I can place a 5k bet with a bookie.  Maybe more on course.  Lose and I'm still playing in thousands.  Lose 50% of my money on here and it will take me years to replace it and then if I didn't reduce stakes could empty the account.
Report howard December 18, 2025 12:08 PM GMT
I say could btw. Biggest bet I've had was £1400 and that was 30 years ago.
Report The Management December 18, 2025 12:16 PM GMT
howard - people that partake in activity that could lose 50% of their money in one hit are unlikely to be in lifetime profit (imo).
Report howard December 18, 2025 12:23 PM GMT
I'm talking about losing 50% over a few bets. A losing run. Listen I think even Rico has said he can't afford to blow anything like a full bank because of problems getting money back in.
Report The Management December 18, 2025 12:30 PM GMT
50% in one bet or 50% over a few bets - no difference really - would make me wonder if you have an advantage at all and even if you do, whether you understand your staking/variance.

Think rico is (by his own admission) looking to pack it in due to edge erosion. Probably gave up on sane staking a good while ago and is accepting that his next major loss will be the push that he needs to pack it in.

No doubt he will correct me if I am wrong!

I know what you're saying they "have " to do.  Don't agree with the whole thing that's all.

I don't "agree" with it either - but they brought it on themselves.

Their ruthless pursuit of gaming, has had a devastating impact on gambling.

I tried to fathom it by looking back but couldnt see it
