"If you're a good rider and you can ride, and you look like you ride like a boy, you'll be fine. But there is a disadvantage being a girl"
Surely we are a thousand miles past this topic now.
She should realise it is all about being good and nothing to do with gender. That is just a cop out and an excuse. You have chosen this profession so be good at it. If you are you will no doubt do well, if not then maybe not so well.
Should an average footballer play in the best football team because of these supposed protected characteristics?
She needs to either get better or do something else.
The journalist should have asked her "who do you think you are better than that is getting more rides than you?"....
That would have been end of chat pretty quickly in my opinion.
Yep didnt stop Blackmore although she could actually ride a race instead of popping out and trying to make all the running as most of the female jockeys seem to do.

Frost was more than decent on occasions and sat on plenty of good horses before that all went south. Blackmore is the perfect shout CROP.....be as good as her Lily and you'll do ok.
Everything has an excuse today....I am sick of it.

Amazing how things have moved on - when Jayne Thompson lost her life John Francome was quoted as saying that ladies should not be allowed to ride in the jumping sphere, his reasoning he claimed that when men fall they naturally form a ball shape to protect their crotch area while the females flop around like rag dolls, making them more prone to injury both from the actual fall and from oncoming horses.

the prize money on the card in France today is eye watering.........Bryony only has one ride, but if she can get on more horses there, its the place to be.

So yes , , balanced, tidy and strong in a finish then. As opposed to checking makeup and hair ?
Indeed its a ridiculous comment and hopefully she's pulled up on it in the weighing room

See RP showing some valuable use of their article 'spaces' as per...write about something that actually matters in racing for once would be nice...
Saw a sycophantic piece about James Bowen (really) in their recently too - bog paper materials in these articles.

Silly comment from a decent girl jockey, Charlotte Jones is decent, Isabelle Williams can sit and is a decent judge of pace, but nothing of Blackmore standard yet, more rides for the girls and maybe one will shine.

It doesn’t matter how or why we skirt around it but males will always be more consistently successful as jockeys, a physically demanding job like few others, which absolutely demands consistency of effort. There can not be many of us males who have not witnessed the quite devastating, debilitating effect that periods can and do have on some females. They can’t take time off in this job so it follows they must have to ride occasionally, even regularly, when they are less than 100% physically o.k. Men talking about women suffering from period pains and debility caused by same is not misogyny, is not deliberate putting down of women, is not a hate crime. It is a recognition of a biological fact of life that men don’t suffer from this physical condition, and for short spells in a month women do. I suspect this is the “disadvantage” she referred to but doesn’t wish to elucidate on.

Why Nebs? Blackmore didn't require any weight....she was just good at her job, albeit possibly on some flippin good horses, but she got on those horses by being good, not by having long hair and a smack of eye liner.

Not getting many rides averaging 1 a day, but plenty of winners and places, and earning more than over here, 28.6% strike rate last fortnight, won 3 x 30k races in a week.
