We hoped you’d graduated up from nicking the communion wine.

Gambling not prohibited in the Bible or the teachings of our Lord Saviour Jesus Christ. There are some verses which could be interpreted to warn off & could apply. 1 Timothy 6.10 for example.

Communion wine is not worth the candle

But let us not forget the 1st miracle of Our Lord and Saviour

Honcho, my knowledge of The Holy Writ of God is complete but that of association football limited. Corinthians most certainly one team, although they pre-date professional leagues

The Power of Prayer is misinterpreted as a wish-list. It is a conversation with God the Father. Unless accompanied by genuine reverence, need, repentance, humility, trust and hope is is futile

Bishop - As a Christian and a wine lover.  I have never understood why the C of E often satisfies itself for Communion Wine with that abomination known as "British Wine", often of the Ruby variety ffs. This is factory made carp is made from cheap imported grape juice of appalling quality. Just a decent cheap'ish port would do the job perfectly.  I know our Lord would not wish us to be overly extravagant but equally John 2-10 must surely be relevant for Communion.

On the topic of turning water into wine there's no finer allegory available than the one in John 2-10.

You see the son (sun) sits above mother earth and whence the rain (water) issues upon mother earth (fertilisation if you were) the vine shall groweth producing the holy grape which unto man is produced as vino.

Thus water has been turned into wine via 'divine' grace.

The Cof E bb satisfies nobody with its diffidence and pusillanimity

It tries to be all things to all men (and varieties thereof) and ends up standing for nought

Port-a fortified wine- would indeed be a great improvement, especially in a chilly chancel. Saluting His sacrifice should be a pleasure, not an ordeal, so more port or at least not that revolting rubbish that will turn people away

'English' wine is an abomination in the form it took but things have changed radically and it regularly scores highly in international blind tasting. But it is expensive due to punitive tax

Unfortunately the Church is so strapped for cash it cannot even afford a bottle of 'blue nun'

Is “church” wine dispensed to the flock via the same glass, receptacle?
