They just don't exist anymore, and haven't for about 30 years. Shame, they were an integral part of the show. Taxi wouldn't be taxi without the iconic theme tune, cheers wouldn't be cheers without the theme tune, the Rockford files wouldn't be the Rockford files without the theme tune. The list is long. Name a show that's popular these days that has a theme tune? Can't think of any.

It's just finished, but The Good Ship Murder.

Return To Paradise isn't bad, but Beyond Paradise is awful.

Over the years Brokenwood has been good for music. Shame the actual programme has got worse with each season.

The all-time classic is Robinson Crusoe. Never bettered.

Sports themes especially are a lost art..

some (relatively) recent decent ones...Game of Thrones, Black Sails, Boardwalk Empire

some absolute classics...Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, The Professionals

I would recommend just getting the DVD. Children's entertainment is now a different world. There's a reason why it used to be repeated back in the day, and hasn't been since. Perhaps BBC 4 as it was much more than a children's programme? Unfortunately, the political correctors would have probably have a field day.

Not that I have watched it for a while but I would guess Match of the day would be one of the few iconic themes still going.

Coronation Street, Eastenders and Emmerdale, still going as far as I know.

I always thought Brookside to have the best theme.

Midsomer murders has an iconic theme tune (Jim Parker).
Nice incidental music also, his version of Agnus Dei
is hauntingly beautiful.

Space 1999, Hawaii 5 0 are the two daddy's for me.

So many of the sports themes were class, Sportsnight, Skiing, Cricket, The Big Match, Snooker, Pot Black, all those themes were good.

I couldn't remember which one duffy (cheers) , tend not to see as much of the late games these days but holds up quite well considering how long ago it was written/produced.

Someone mentioned getting kids to watch Robinson Crusoe. Wouldn't that be a joy to see another generation discover what we loved. But unfortunately it just doesn't work in today's world, PC or not PC, and heaven knows I've tried.
Its not just TV, its films, books, sport (as it was before money ruled),  - nothing captures their imagination.
Serve up Marvel, K- Pop and Sponsored kids channels on Youtube jumping off balconies or dropping objects off bridges - then they are rivetted. I absolutley despair.
