Never really got into Rising Damp. The cast was brilliant but it never quite hit the mark. Breaking it in half for the adverts might not have helped.

Rising Damp absolutely wonderful, so to The Fall and Rise of Reg - outside of sport and news all I watch is 1970’s related box sets - with a slight bend of the rules eg John Thaw is 1970’s so I accept Morse, and a continuation in Lewis. Also count Yes Minister as though not first broadcast until Jan 1980, those early episodes were made in late 1979. Have a rule whereby I only watch the box sets with alcohol accompaniment.

My box set collection consists of the full series’s of those below……a most pleasing collection imo.

Special Branch  ( both Derren Nesbitt and George Sewell series’s)
Columbo
Two Ronnies
Morse
Home To Roost
Van Der Valk
Rising Damp
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Are You Being Served
The Champions
Man About The House
George & Mildred
Robin's Nest
The Saint (Roger Moore series’s only)
The Lovers
The Persuaders
Curry & Chips
The Good Life
Fawlty
The Sweeney
Yes Minister
Yes Prime Minister
On The Buses
The Protectors
Butterflies
To The Manor Born
Kavanagh QC
Lewis
And Mother Makes Three
And Mother Makes Five

The '60s was the golden era for pop music, and the '70s was the golden era for sitcoms, imo, I'd have  Fawlty Towers, Rising Damp, Porridge and Reggie ahead of Only Fools And Horses any day.

Couldn’t take to Yootha Joyce.  Liked her in her role but ( the way she played it ) but didn’t get any glamour/attraction feel about her. Can’t explain it.  Then later on when I learned she a tipple problem it kind of fell into place.  Not a criticism Penzance, just a different perception.  We’re all different.
I caught a yootoob vid. on Richard O’Sullivan the other day.  He’s had it rough poor chap.  Getting old has not been kind.

The lovely Francoise Pascal appeared in a number of racy comedy films in the early 70s, often shown these days late at night on Together TV (Freeview 83).

She has continued in the film industry to some degree since, most recently producing and appearing in the 2021 Cold Sun starring Patrick Bergin and Ian Ogilvy.

I still can’t watch Home To Roost.  John Thaw just didn’t have the comic skill sadly.

I actually thought he fitted into the role surprisingly well - same scriptwriter as Rising Damp.

Brilliant.  That we all have differing views and opinions.  It makes for a varied world.
John Thaw was a smashing actor and it was a great shame his life ended in such a pain-filled way.  R.I.P.
