Some of it seemed implausible. Getting stressed out due to the start of yet another jockeys' championship. Going to for example Newcastle on a Saturday night to ride yaks in case one of them ends up at the Breeders' Cup! Expecting to retire at 30.

I'd like to know why the people around him 'cousins'? and passenger allowed him to drive when he was blotto. The passenger got in the car, willingly I assume, ffs! I was expecting to hear he was one or two over, not blind drunk.

I'd have liked to have known what it was like meeting all of the people he'd let down again after the accident. He says he blames himself for the mistakes and wrongdoing, but seems to me deep down he actually doesn't, he blames the bottle.

I feel like it's alarming that someone at the top of his profession, in the prime of his life, presumably a multimillionaire seems so absolutely fed up with his lot. There will be people flipping burgers for a living much happier than he is. In over an hour there was zero levity in that chat. If he hates it that much, stop. Do something else.

Given all of the above, I remain a 'fan' of Murphy and tended to defend him on here, separating the private from the professional. Which is why it's quite annoying he was taking a very thinly veiled swipe at the 'English' at the end, and not just the people trying to get him cancelled. Did he know that English people might watch it, not just another cosy private chat with Irish people hating on the English?

He's suffering from depression

It's what I'm getting at. He has earned the luxury of being able to do whatever he wants by the age of 30. The wasting is evidently eating him up from the inside. Which is understandable. It seems perverse to me that you would carry on doing something that you absolutely hate, if you can easily opt put of it. I suppose that was another take out, he doesn't seem to get any joy out of the winners either, but he does like horses. So go and run a farm for the retraining of retired horses.

maybe the fear of what he'd do without racing is the reason he carries on, not just missing horses, but the knowledge he'd have no one to police him day to day

I dont think there is a jockey past or present that has "enjoyed" it. The way of life, the hours, the constant criticism from keyboard warriors etc. They put up with it seemingly and it has its high points, but sadly like we found out all too recently with Tommie Jakes.. its a very lonely and traumatic way of living.

a friend of mine took his life when he started to struggle to get rides and he had weight issues, he tortured himself in a not too different way to that which oishin talks about, lots have drink or substance problems and not just jocks, lads and lasses in yards too

Cider so obsessed with his own shallow measurements of "success" (measured in his mind solely by material wealth), that he just can't compute - somebody that is incredibly "successful" in £'s and in what he does as a job, could also simultaneously be deeply unhappy or depressed and susceptible to addiction (to escape his demons).

It just doesn't fit in with your narrow minded thinking on addiction does it? You're still wanting to portray all addicts as poor and stupid people; In reality most are just deeply unhappy and looking for an escape.

Sometimes poor/stupid people looking for an escape and equally often rich/intelligent people looking for an escape. Either way it's nearly always people looking for an escape and some respite from their reality.

Murphy has got that look about him, it's written all over him - and although it's beyond your capability to understand the nature of it, you are at least quite right when you point out, that riding more winners or winning more big races won't make it go away.

I hope it ends well for him and he finds what he's looking for (whatever is missing) from his life.

Seems you are addicted to stalking me on here, so you can somewhat empathise with Murphy.

No, I don't think all addicts are poor and/or stupid. But he wasn't born with a bottle in his hand, and alcohol is a human invention. It is a choice. Yes, for some it's a very hard choice not to drink, snort, or choose to do whatever they feel compelled to do. Nonetheless, it is a choice.

My observation was that he initially takes responsibility for his errors. But digging under the surface, he blames alcohol ultimately, and not his own culpability.

You are free to have an alternative observation to me. Without succumbing to your own addiction of personally attacking me on this forum. Luckily for you, I couldn't give a shiit about what you think of me.

What a depressing interview, like being a fly on the wall at a Psychiatrists.  Clearly a troubled man, I do wonder if perhaps he should talk about something other than himself.

Contrast this, with the excellent Tom Marquand.  Cheerful, every bit as hardworking, jet setting, jet leg, constant fitness regimes yet seems to take it all in his stride and shares it with us willingly.

There's nothing personal about it - I'm more than happy to correct absolutely anybody that regularly spouts one-dimensional, politically motivated, shallow nonsense.
