Announced half of it today! minimum wage, living wage, sugar tax, abolishing most jury trials (not strictly a budget issue but it is all about costs) She is flying in the face of all protocol about budgets. None of this was announced at the Despatch Box in the House of Commons as it should be.

Just calculated that someone on minimum wage working 40 hours per week for 48 weeks (£25824) gets more than twice as much as a Basic State Pensioner for 52 weeks (12500). Both from April 2026. Which puts into perspective just how low the pension still is.

A case could be made for raising it. Must be a few hitting the threshold after 10 months then just working for cash or not at all, Probably 100/1 as well. It wii create a lot of hassle for a lot of people if she lowers it. Know tomorrow. |

Whose benefits? Not workers or businesses that have been burdened with costs upon costs from a chancellor who stated growth was her priority but has done nothing other than put obstacles in the way of it There are no benefits under socialism, only penalties |

Not everyone gets 'benefits'. They just help pay for them.

They implement policies that directly cause inflation to go up, then argue benefits have to go up due to keeping pace with inflation.
I'm glad Rachel from accounts is an economist, how bad would it be if we had a chancellor that wasn't :D |

How on earth will raising wages (and pensions) reduce the cost of living for anyone? Almost all of the minimum wage rises will be passed straight on in prices in catering outlets and shops of any sort. 30% of the rise will come straight back to Rachel in income tax and NI of course which is why she is raising them. The great unknown is how many minimum wage jobs will be lost.
