JCR is being sued by a former regional head of marketing who was responsible for the area including Cheltenham and Aintree. In a case due to reach a London Court next week, Mathew Foxton-Duffy he was overworked and placed under so much stress, following a restructure, he suffered a "profound psychiatric reaction".

JCR denies any negligence in its dealings with Foxton-Duffy and says the claim has no basis. It insists the first it knew of him suffering any stress-related illness came when he was signed off work in January 2022. His contract was terminated three months later.

Documents lodged in court claim, that even before the restructure, he was "already working at maximum capacity...He worked everyday of the week and was constantly on call. On week days, he often arrived at the Cheltenham office at 7am and left at 7pm and did not take a break. He persistently received and sent emails outside of his contractual hours. He was taking less than a quarter of his annual holiday entitlement, and was working while on holiday."

It is claimed one colleague in particular "witnessed a clear deterioration of his mental health evident in their everyday conversation. Foxton-Duffy recalls a conversation with a named colleague in which he "discussed counting trees on his drive into work and deciding which one he might choose to crash his car into.

JCR denies the conversation took place.
