The alleged commentary by Brian Johnston is actually "The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey". Alas this is almost certainly an urban myth as there is no recording to support it and nobody else heard him say it.
He did make a few other amusing gaffes though, including "There's Neil Harvey standing at leg slip with his legs wide apart, waiting for a tickle"

I’m sure you’ll be right Dixie being a mature fan, no offence intended. It just seems like we’ve seen it. I bought and read his book too and I’m sure it was mentioned in there. Was a cricketer not out by legging the wicket and he called it something like “how did he get his leg over there”. Myth or otherwise it is a great tale.

Briain Johnston didnt say he didnt say the Holding/Willey quote. He just said he couldnt remember saying it. On here is the Johnston/Aggers giggling fit re Aggers "couldnt quite get his leg over" comment. Still hilarious.

It was allegedly said by Brian at the Oval test in 1976, i'm sure a recording would be available if it was true and surely some listeners would have remembered it. Apparently a letter was sent in to TMS about it by a Miss Mainpiece which is how the alleged quote came to light. Her name alone is enough to raise suspicions, sounds like a character from a Carry On film !
In 1991 against the West Indies Ian Botham overbalanced trying to play a shot and broke his own wicket, in the summary of the days play J Agnew stated that "Botham couldn't quite get his leg over" , cue much hilarity and laughter from Brian and aggers.
