Daily Rules - One AW meeting / day to select at with the only exception being two meetings on Good Friday. Preference will usually be given to the later starting meeting to give people more time to post.

1. Make a selection in each race at the nominated meeting

2. Count your selections and make sure you haven't missed any races out

3. Please name the selections, 'FAV' or race card numbers are not permitted

4. Please have your picks in 15 mins before the first race. THIS RULE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED

5. Abandoned meetings: Only meetings where at least 4 races have been run will count towards overall scoring. In the event of incomplete meetings naps will not count double and half points will apply to the overall scores.

6. Naps & NRs

NRs can only be changed up to 15 minutes before the first race - otherwise your selection will be switched to the favourite (lowest card number if joint or co-favs).

If your Nap is a NR, it will be switched to your last-named selection that runs unless changed at least 15 minutes before the first race.

If more than one nap is nominated, the first one will stand, and likewise if more than one selection is given for the same race, the first one will stand.

Any confusion regarding what the nap is (eg none given), then the nap will go on to the last-named selection on the card that runs, unless clarified at least 15 minutes before the first race is off.

7. SCORERS DECISION IS FINAL

Problems Posting on the Forum
If there are patently problems accessing the forum for many, the comp on such days will be voided.

Thank you

One selection per race
One nap per meeting, double points awarded

Winner selected scores 7 points
Second selected scores 3 points
Third selected scores 1 point

If SP is greater than 6/1 points are doubled
If SP is greater than 12/1 points are trebled
If SP is greater than 20/1 points are quadrupled
If SP is greater than 28-1 points are quintupled.
If SP IS EVENS OR SHORTER POINTS ARE HALVED (i.e a 4/7 winner scores 3.5, a napped 10/11 second scores 3)

The overall leaderboard is posted on the Your Comps Forum

There will usually be one meeting a day to select at including Sundays, except for AW Finals day when there are two meetings to end the season with.

Cheers George. Given that Chelmsford also races on Good Friday might we go out with a bang and do all three?

I would also like to suggest a rule change but I appreciate that there might not be enough time to discuss it. The change would be to give 7 points to odds on winners in order to dissuade people from gaming the system by putting up big price 2nd fav which will garner more points under the current system (even if the jolly wins by half the track).

Cosmik, thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not keen on the suggestion for odds-on shots because that would mean 14pts for napping say, a 1-10 shot, which equally could be described as "gaming the system". There were changes to try and ensure fairness as far as possible - the 15 minute rule before the first race so that no advantage can be gleaned from seeing the odds close to the off eg in a two horse market where it's not clear which one will go off odds-on fav; and also that no NR / nap changes can be made once the meeting is under way.

Hopefully the racing is competitive enough so that the example you cite rarely happens, but if it does, then those taking part need to work it out the best option for themselves.

As for the third meeting on Good Friday, I don't mind scoring another meeting, but the problem is we struggled to get ten taking part for the second meeting last Good Friday, so could struggle for numbers on a third meeting, which wouldn't be fair on the leader going into the final day if it means their rivals can, in theory, win overall points more easily.

Good morning George do people game he system by tipping heavy odds on chances?
Report GEORGE.B November 10, 2025 11:27 AM GMT
Good morning jimnast. Maybe not the expression to use, but due to the points structure of the competition, it would mean getting the same points for napping a 1-10 as you would for a 6-1 shot.

I'm actually thinking that it would be best to go back to how it was, with the competition ending on the Friday before the Lincoln, because once the turf starts you then have gaps on the AW programme, the weather starts improving and people lose interest, and as a scorer, I start thinking I'll be glad when this is finished!

So that would make the final meeting - Southwell, Fri 27th March.
Report GEORGE.B November 10, 2025 11:52 AM GMT
Actually, scratch that, just seen there's only a week's difference this year with Easter falling a bit earlier.

I don’t know how you scorers do it especially undecided just back to the big odds on shots wouldn’t you think people would play in the right spirt .
Report GEORGE.B November 10, 2025 12:33 PM GMT
jimnast, people do play in the right spirit for the AW comp. I suppose the Naps league is different because promotion / relegation is involved and some are happy just to be in the top league with a high strike rate.

I think TheNorfolkMafia had the right approach, just not worry about what division you're in and just set your own aims.
Report jimnast November 10, 2025 4:23 PM GMT
That’s good to know as the effort you put in deserves people to play in the right spirt and yes the Norfolk mafia had the right idea about that premiere league

Cheers George, I can see both sides of the argument so am more than happy to go with the status quo.

Just one more sleep until the misery begins for another few months.

* Sorry, I meant fun, not misery.
