Funny old game indeed. However, a freak result could have been anticipated given the quality of the participants eg Minnie Hauk (tired / hyped / non-bombproof form eg Irish Oaks / 2nd to Daryz (?)); Rebels Romance - a good horse (?); the tight track and a suicidal pace.
I thought I was astute backing Ethical Diamond in the Ebor, but could never foresaw the result yesterday in a million years. Can he do the same in The ARC? Absolutely not, unless half the field were pacesetters, the other half including the principals have an off day.
Nevertheless, I'm happy for his owners and Mr Mullins (for having a go), and rewarded big time.
