Always touted to be a top class chaser makes debut at Stratford today. Skelton used this race last year to introduce L’eau du Sud so probably Be Aware must be near the top of the pecking order.

I’d imagine a similar route will taken up to Xmas including Cheltenham and Sandown.

Might need the run first time up but could be major player in 2 1/2 novice come March.

Your argument is sound sir re the horse. I'd also throw in there "would DS be starting it off carrying 11-12 against seasoned individuals if he didn't think it was well within the horse's comfort zone?"

My 'negative' is solely that there are thousands and thousands of races a year so do I really want (or need!!) to be taking a shortish price on a horse that I've never seen jump a fence before and also which hasn't run for quite a while?

The answer is a resounding NO, but good luck to you if you play. I'll be cheering you on.

No, not getting involved today. Just thought it was interesting to watch for later in season.

It seems unusual to discuss horses on here at the moment Laugh

I'm sure it has been covered previously at length, but seems bizarre they can run in a handicap chase having never jumped a fence before on the racetrack.

Balance of probabilities is that he will be very decent.

Well to be fair the Prunella Scales news hit a lot of us hard

Can't see how DS would want his first competitive chasing experience to be a gruelling one - suggesting in time that he'll be 15-20lbs better than today's mark.

We'll see, still though, not an iota of temptation to back it today.
Report Cider October 30, 2025 2:06 PM GMT
No, but then wasting a potentially juicy chasing handicap for £7K. If you're not part of the inner circle, it's just guessing. If he's that good they might not care about the mark.

Certainly has enough profile, albeit disappointing at the back end of last season.

He doesn’t win very often, in fact only once.
Report in hell October 30, 2025 2:17 PM GMT
I thing that puts me off him is he doesn't seem to have a trip. Runs on over 2m and then doesn't appear to get home over 2m 4f.

Shouldn't be allowed to run in a h'cap chase without a run either imo
Report Hibore October 30, 2025 2:17 PM GMT
Tried and tested route to run novice first time up in handicap off hurdles rating. Can potential have easier race if plenty in hand and race worth more than novice chases in many cases.
Report Cider October 30, 2025 2:18 PM GMT
Seems like a massive loophole.
Report Cider October 30, 2025 2:21 PM GMT
Funny isn't it that many novice chases don't fill, but they are permitted to run in a handicap chase based on hurdle ability.

Grandeur d’Ame should provide a good test for the fav who as an upcoming 6 yr old should win
Report j foxxxx October 30, 2025 2:31 PM GMT
The original post was solely about BA possibly being way better than today's mark.

They've ALL been absent between 188 to 229 days.

To start 'tipping' other potential winners is frankly silly.

Shocked

Looks like Dan's forgotten to stick the velcro advertising patch on the horse's hood.
Report Hibore October 30, 2025 2:40 PM GMT
I think BA could be a leading Novice this season. Today will be first chance to assess jumping and attitude.
Novice handicap Chase at Cheltenham in March would be my idea of his target but that is long way off.

Am on Range, win and 4th place.  Worth the shot I feel.
Report LoyalHoncho October 30, 2025 2:52 PM GMT
Was never happy how Range was jumping.  Cry. Nice win for Be Aware.  Well done.

Good thread.

Nice performance. Jumping far from perfect. Up with the pace the whole way. 3 miles at Kempton at Xmas possibly?
Report Cider October 30, 2025 2:56 PM GMT
They'll be breathing again in Closutton !
Report Hibore October 30, 2025 2:56 PM GMT
Thought he jumped well for first time in public. Thought Harry knew he had everything covered in the straight.
Interesting to see what Dan says..same as last year and LDS ?
Report LoyalHoncho October 30, 2025 2:57 PM GMT
Is he allowed to take drugs on a race-course?

Sry.  Dylslexic.
Report Cider October 30, 2025 2:58 PM GMT
pretty poor form, he jumped well enough but unless they left a lot to work on, he's no worldy
Report Hibore October 30, 2025 3:00 PM GMT
He’s a handicapper but might nick a graded early season. 10st in March Novice Chase might be his bag.
Report uptheirons October 30, 2025 3:24 PM GMT
A good race for Stratford
Report Bentring October 30, 2025 3:50 PM GMT
