... I noticed that Elise, dont forget the 15% commission, going to be a lot of items unsold imo.

i suppose you never know, but i'm struggling to see a market for dozens of highly priced saddle cloths, feels like the museum is shoving loads of their non-display unwanted items

Bound to be the odd buyer but a very niche market, you would have a hard job to find many items that hold their own price or actually go up in value imo.

Things like the Frankel racecards that " Stocks " was asking about would be better off sold privately or even put them on Ebay and see what response they attract.

Interesting browse all the same. Happy

780 lots...700+ unsold.
A Frankie Dettori signed set of silks and cap seemed particularly poor value at 2-3k estimate.

there's a set of silks in another auction which would frame up and be interesti89ng for about 50 quid

Glasgow. I havn't looked at this latest Budd auction yet. BUT Budd's Buyers premium is usually 24% plus vat so 28.8%. Cant remember if they have a further % premium for online bidding. Worth checking; Buyer bewarwe!!!

Thanks for the link. Had a look through and doubt I will bid this time. If money was no consideration I would go for the Arkle cap.

It is like a lot of memorabilia; it is collectable until it isn't, and most of this stuff isn't. Nostalgia dies as humans pass away, and most of the lots have no intrinsic beauty. If I lived in a 5,000 square feet detached house with games room then yes, maybe I'd have framed silks or football shirts on every wall for a splash of colour but I don't. Timeforms going back to the 1950s for a couple of hundred quid: why? At least they are no longer quoted in the thousands.

No new silks which surprises me. Have I missed them?

There was a recent Australian report that pianos are being sent to landfill and I gather it is the same here. Hardly anyone plays them, they can't be moved without being retuned, and musicians now buy electronic keyboards that take up no space.

Re new silks.  There is still a good market for the sale/transfer of historic and lifetime silks but most of the ones that used to be seen for sale at Budds emanated from a BHA plan to register and sell new sets of colours that often did not confirm to the usual rules (designs and colours). This market collapsed when the BHA relaxed the rules on colours and designs allowing anyone to register almost anything. We now have the ridiculous dumbing down of colours resulting in dogs, dartboards and numerous other ridiculous images. Oh and before anyone says, I have always been a fan of the crazy quilt!

Elise - Sorry I missed your post. My database was just single colour silks including cap.  However the colours do ring a bell.  Major Harris???  Defo Gold/Orange and Green cap. Someone may know. Will take a look.
