This first meeting is a far cry from when I used to attend. In those days there were no Irish runners, and the fields were far less competitive. Now very happy to avoid from a punting angle.

That said had a small dart on this horse. The only other one I thought about was Not Without Danger in the last, but the price has collapsed 16/1-8/1.

Blenkinsop was a much better hurdler than any of these, and ended up running in a Grade 1 novice at Aintree where he was far from disgraced, particularly as the trip/ground probably stretched his stamina and he again had the hinderance of a very ordinary claimer. Today's trip and ground should be fine. He obviously had an issue after Aintree, but showed he retained plenty of ability at Uttoxeter. He always looked like he should make a chaser, and if he translates the hurdles form then he is on a very good mark. I assume he can jump fences as it would be pretty silly to start him off at Cheltenham if he couldn't. The negative for me would be his hold up running style in a big field. Hopefully, it's not just a schooling mission. Last night he was the 25/1 outsider of lot, and I thought his chance was considerably better than that.

Agreed, one of the more interesting horses on show today.

Old school yard who's runners can go under the radar, normally well schooled.

Ground might be plenty quick enough for him judged on yesterdays times, going way off gd/sft on the chase track.

Mark looks well within his compass if he's fit and ready, has run well before off a break.

Gethings 0-74 at the track, not exactly a positive.

Can see this lad stepping up in trip at some point,he can also go both ways round judged on previous form.

At those overnight prices, and currently,he may well be out for the experience.

Interested long term to see if there is any more progression in him, likeable type.

I wouldn't argue at all about Gethings, but presumably, he must have been doing the schooling. He can't be worse than Nugent.

Looking an open sort of race, had a look at True Testimony for Ian Donoghue, but think his other one West Away may be his better one.

Beaten a closing head or a neck. No good to anyone who backed it at a big price each-way.

Horse was low at the first, took off too early at the second, and bungled the fifth. Consequently, always too far behind, and the jock made no real effort until three out. Under a better ride would have been placed.

Just watched it back and he also got hampered in the backwash to the fall, something you couldn't see on Racing TV.

Nice to see he got the job done today, but I fear his jumping frailties will restrict his progress. Reaching for too many, and not using his backend enough.
