I only watched the last few furlongs but did Cobden make any attempt to get the fav into a more proximal position in order to have a chance?

how would knowing he was  held up, help your bet at the off, if a loon like Harvey would be waiting to see if held up the shrewdies would have already adjusted their odds to reflect it,if it was a fast pace it would be the  place to be for him, if he,d went from front his chance was just as compromised because he wouldn't settle anyway

yes but you,d have to no it was going to run at a crawl,if there was pace in the race, and you were on a horse that needed settling where would you want to be in the race ?
if you new it was a nonner it  didn't matter where it was fooking lining up LaughLaugh
Report shoodacoodadidnt October 22, 2025 5:50 PM BST
what do you mean? horses that win 3 mile point to points are always 2 mile speed merchants that need holding up - everyone knows that ;) .... when I saw the thread I assumed it was Mr. Nicholls (that would be no shock) .... but nay....

Harry Cobden, the rider of HERON IN THE PARK (IRE), which finished sixth of eight runners, beaten 8
lengths was questioned regarding his riding of the mare in the home straight. The rider was interviewed
and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer examined the mare post-race and had nothing
to report. The rider stated his instructions were to drop in last and get the mare to settle as she had been
too keen when winning at Newbury on her previous start. He stated that on this occasion the mare had
pulled too hard throughout the race, a fact that he reported at scales and that he felt that the race had
been run at a slow and muddling pace. After travelling strongly into the home straight he angled righthanded for clear running after which he began to ask the mare for an effort before jumping awkwardly at
the second last hurdle, from which point he felt her effort begin to flatten out due to her early exertions
before staying on at the one pace to the line. Cobden indicated that he considered HERON IN THE PARK
(IRE) had been unsuited by this race essentially turning into a sprint up the home straight. His explanation
was noted

Report Kriskin October 22, 2025 9:41 PM BST
The horse was NEVER put into the race - that is the simple answer - the drift makes it even look more suspicious. Harry can say whatever he wants but he will not fool the punters.
Report uptheirons October 22, 2025 10:34 PM BST
It looks bad to people who have not ridden.
My view is this;Tom the Teeth sent the horse there expecting to win without too much trouble and probably left it a gallop short.
As is common when not primed, the horse was too keen off a crawl(6 seconds slower than Div2).
Cobdens instructions got the horse beat.
Posters are free to hold different views but,to suggest Cobden "stopped it" is ridiculous.
Report Deptford October 22, 2025 10:42 PM BST
Whatever way you look at it, it was shocking to watch, the horse was never given a chance and that should matter
Report uptheirons October 22, 2025 10:45 PM BST
I totally agree,Deptford.
I know where the blame should lay and its not Cobden who is as straight a jockey ring today as I know
