There are quite a few bullion dealers, and the like, selling coins
There's quite a spread now in prices for sovereigns, so
shop around. Nice to get all the different monarchs
and all the different portraits and all the foreign mints....

All UK gold coins are free from capital gains tax, which
makes them better than foreign gold such as kugerands

Where gold price goes is anybody's guess.

Could fall as it did in 80s, or keep going up as
it has with governments printing extra cash.

Buying silver bullion coins you pay vat on top at 20%
so limited interest for me, when you can pick up
a nice Henry 8 coin minted in Durham for around £50.

Gold is heavier, more dense, than the metal it is alloyed with.

Figures are correct for gold content and sov weight

The alloy metal has varied somewhat over the years
and is mostly copper now, but has been mixture of copper
and silver, and mainly silver way back when.

Silver is denser than copper, with a density of approximately 10.49g/ccm compared to copper's density of about 8.96 gccm

Could be other stuff used to maintain weight.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- October 15, 2025 5:56 PM BST
The density of pure gold is approximately 19.32g/ccm

So a 1oz silver coin is much bigger than a 1 oz gold coin.

No captain.

Sovs are an excellent investment and readily saleable,

As they are legal tender they carry no capital gains tax.

Some dates are rare and trade at a premium, some were minted
outside of UK and those become sought after too.

You can buy britanias which are also legal tender and 24carat.
1oz, half ounce, 1/4,1/10th and smaller now.

They have never circulated so should all in great condition

His network also trafficked workers, who were confined in prison-like compounds and forced to carry out scams online, targeting thousands of victims worldwide. It owned 19 properties in London, one of which is worth nearly £100m.

It depends what you pay for them. There is a price to be paid for having it turned into a coin with many people (as you can see on this thread) believing that the weight of the gold is equivalent to the actual gold price when it isn’t.

Report CaptainCristy October 15, 2025 6:20 PM BST
*weight of the coin.
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- October 15, 2025 6:33 PM BST
If you take coin to sell they will weigh it.

It should be 7.9g,..but dealer knows it's 22k
and if it's wrong weight probably won't take it.

It's easy for punter to not know gold content because
they hadn't been told. And it's not marked on coin.

Some coins print purity and or weight on them but most do not.
