It was Ed who said he won 51 races. As if. He also won a couple on the Flat for Hern/Mercer. His last win came on Horse And Hound Gold Cup day, my first day's racing.

The three Champion Hurdle's are out there, and if you hunt around you can find the run in of his Schweppes Hurdle win. He beat Major Rose and Sempervivum with the likes of Even Keel, Supermaster and Spanish Steps further behind. One of best ever renewals. He would have been fancied to win the following year, but the race was abandoned. Sadly, as regards footage of his wins that's it.

I saw him win the Sweeps Hurdle at Fairyhouse in 1970, Leopardstown was closed due to redevelopment hence Fairyhouse,  race was run in atrocious conditions, sleet most of the day

That foggy day at Nottingham 1970 , beaten a head by Banksy's Orient War (rec 12lb ) , only saw the finish - City Trial Hurdle . Did him no harm as won again at HQ .

The Champion was his only win that season. He was beaten favourite on each of his other 6 starts. The previous season he got beat in the Kingwell at 1/4.

That was only the second Sweeps Hurdle, and although he won very easily, that wasn't the best renewal. It was his last big win. He had finished third (again beaten favourite) in the first running, and much stronger renewal the previous season.
