I certainly don’t and wouldn’t,but heard 10 % of transactions (all transactions in general)on spending are plastic…

Cashless would certainly kill the betting ring….

Scary tbh….coins ? Who carries them……jingling around in the pocket….only handy for parking meters imv….

Debit cards in bookies have been used for years. No different from taking cash out the ATM really.

The ones throwing pens around probably haven’t got any money in their bank so a debit card is irrelevant to them!

@formoftherace

"but heard 10 % of transactions (all transactions in general) on spending are plastic…"

Something like 80% of retail spending (by value) is on plastic.  Doubtless distorted by high-value transactions being mostly on card but I would be confident many more than 10% of transactions by number are on card.

The younger people I know not only do not carry cash, they do not even carry physical cards (relying on phone 'wallets') so the cashpoint is not even an option.

Most of the young people won’t have a wallet or purse….I’ve noticed countless at the checkout holding up the mobile to pay…..

Probably not for a long time but it will go eventually….

I noticed a punter at Perth playing on the card and the bookmaker asking if he wanted cash when he picked up winnings….

I thought fk that…..not for me sorry…

The way it works though is that any winning bets on course using a debit card are paid back in cash.

Many tracks now are card only so while one can gain entry by buying drinks or food using a credit or debit cards a winning day with the bookmakers using a debit card will mean going home with cash.
