What was he trying to achieve?
1)He doesn't fool the handicapper...
2) He nearly gets banned for 28 days and probably loses the goodwill of that owner and probably trainer.
3) He hasn't had many winners anyway.
4) Riding out an extra 10 yards doesn't affect the horse in anyway.
5) He looks like a **** either way.

In fairness he apologised, said he made a misjudgement and was completely wrong.Not sure what else can be said , everyone makes mistakes and he at least admitted straight after the race, not all other guys are that honest...
