Put this up separately as the other thread has just descended into a squabble. What a surprise.

I said on the other thread it was a very poor renewal and I stand by that. I also said no bet, but then I looked at the rest of Saturday and it's just wall to wall bookmaker fodder. Even the condition races look like handicaps.

So back to the Mill Reef. If the top of market looks weak there has to an element of value at the other end. Flying Comet hasn't got brilliant form, but his Thirsk second under a penalty is the best bit of form on show, and he has shown he can handle at least good to soft. He just beat American Gulf last time, and although that one has been relatively disappointing since making a winning debut, he was backed for the Coventry. Options at the time were to take a boosted 33/1 or 18/1 four places. I went for the more conservative option.

I couldn't see anything else worth a small dabble on a very bad day. Hopefully, there are no non-runners.

It's not normally my sort of price but 4/1 or better Into the Sky looks generous enough to find out whether or not the debut win was a fluke. Obviously he acts on the course and he was quickly into his stride last time after getting a slight bump leaving the stalls. If this is a below par renewal he stands out as the one who could be up to Group 2 standard. Good luck with yours dd, similar to you I've struggled to find anything in the stakes races but eventually decided to have a swing at Mood Queen and Balmoral Lady e.w. at bigger prices.

The first two in the Gimcrack pulled 5 lengths clear of the rest. Runner up Rock on Thunder to get compensation here. 3/1 long gone.

Thanks, nice little collection on what looked a very poor day. Initially backed from 33/1-12/1, but drifted closer to the off, perhaps because of the rain.

Everything's easier in hindsight, but best not to beat yourself up if you have collected.

A poor renewal?? The first 2 pulled nearly 6 clear, both 105 + horses, thé
Winner will probably go to 110 at 2, once it gets . Don’t give up your day job??
