He was a brilliant boxer but he obviously had his demons.
The documentary on him was graphic. Poor man, that's absolutely terrible if he did take his own life.

Loved him in his earlier career, before he found out having poor defence was difficult in the top class levels.

Struggled with weight massively, was very sad to hear this news though.

. Only knew his boxing not him personally.  Always tried his heart out in the ring and the personal tributes seem very deserved.  R.I.P.

Before he was top class,but very good,saw him jogging in the rain at 4am in the morning,he d then go past his mates throwing stones up at his window to wake him up.
Between fights he’d go and knock a landlord up for a beer,
Intense guy,but had to be to make it,helped being a city fan,which encourage promoters to put his fights on,as sure to sell out tickets.
Hence vegas wanted him,

Opponents regularly crumpling to the canvas in agony.
A lot got back up, because very few head shots.
But finished them off a round or two later.

His horizontal left hook to the ribs was shocking and frightening.

Firstly....Nothing short of a crying shame for such a warrior who gave so many so much joy with his battles where he never ever quit.

Secondly and far less importantly....The OP is a complete melt.

Just watched the Charlie Lister YouTube video, interviewer Julie Collier, and Ricky features in a photo of Charlie and his wife.  And only two such photos were shown ( late on in the video ) so Charlie must have thought a lot of him.

Some things shock you which is why I haven’t written here despite my prolific posting!

Grew up watching him with my cousin annd dad and we watched many of the big fights back then. Remember when they were free and you’d wait up ‘till the early hours to see the action from stateside?

His greatest victory was when he beat Costa Zu (have no idea how to spell it) who was very well regarded at the time.
There was no shame that he got beat by Money, one of the best I’ve seen. The documentary where his dad trained him was savage, no respect for Hatton whatsoever.
(The clip with the medicine ball shows he seemed to like inflicting pain on Hatton.)

I’m sure that there’s a feeling that more could have been done to help him with his depression and career, it’s a sad loss and one that sort of wakes you up.

I loved he’d play that version of blue moon and had that kid with him for every fight, he had a big heart.

Also loved seeing the faces of his opponents, looking at him - thinking who’s this pasty faced midg before he let loose with those vicious body shots!!

Respect Ricky and may you have found your peace.

Real, deep-seated depression is almost incommunicable by the sufferer (verbally ) and unrecognisable to others with no experience of it.  I would imagine he was silently inconsolable poor man.  It takes some guts to finally kill yourself. 
Can there be anything worse in life than feeling unable to tell anyone who you care for of your issues?  The thought of perceiving that you will lose the respect of someone who looks up to you mentally cripples and disables.
It’s not hard to take in, it is however very hard to take. Poor man.

Agree largely with everything said, but I’m not sure that guts are needed or even relevant when,  “The black dog” takes its grip to that degree.

It’s not a criticism Loyal, but I’d mentioned my cousins son had hung himself at the age of 15, I dint think guts or bottle was a factor. Desperate, fear other motives come into play when suffering from a mental illness. I also hate to call it illness as we realise that we’re all wired differently.

My other cousins son, his young wife and mother shot herself. Despite having the dream life.

I don’t know more details, but I know that it leaves a huge scar. Why? It’s a big question and we’ll never know and one thing most of us like is a reason.

It’s a tragic loss for anyone and the ‘Hitman’ will hopefully be at peace now.

I didn’t take it as such and agree with you.  “We’ll never know” is the common factor, and nor, often, can we fathom.  That’s the resultant tragedy.
