Much is made of Appleby's success, but he is just exploitating the poor quality of the opposition on grass. Jocks like Buick can ride ordinary races and still win. It would be something if he was winning dirt races. It's surprising other trainers don't send their horses over.

I think ,apart from Frankie and a few others, most of our jocks don't understand the dynamics of

US racing. Here we go (in 2 furlong sections over say 6 furlongs) Slow,Slow, Quick. There  it's

Quick, moderate, slow. So our jocks often think because the speed will tire they can sit back and

come with a late run but there are two problems with that. The straights are usually very short and

one or more of the front runners may have enough left in the tank to not get caught. Typically,

when a leader leaves the final bend into the home stretch the jockey will make it change leads

thereby easing the fatigue on the leg that led around the bend. When this happens they often find

an extra length or so before the other rivals leave the turn. Unless the rider is on a Zenyatta it

pays to be up with or not far off the pace.

Generally true imo.

Quite often the Americans go too fast and the likes of Buick and Moore come late and nab them. Some tracks have shorter straights.
These races were on the inner track at Woobine which is more like where the Breeders Cup will be run - Dell Mar. Great place to prep.

The outer woodbine grass track (home of the Pattinson international) has the longest home straight going.

In last place was Hunt Master

Beaten 13L by Notable Speech 8f
Was beaten 15L by Moira 10f who’d beaten Cinderella’s Dream into 2nd  in last years Breeders Cup F&M turf.

My Boy Prince who was 1 3/4 by Notable Speech
My Boy Prince was also beaten 2L by Breeders Cup Mile hopeful Deterministic 10/1

Lay away, there’s formlines there if you look without prejudice.

For me Notable Speech is favoured by these fast mile tracks as he was at Deauville last time out as opposed to when he’s ran at Ascot.
It’s nice to see him showing that turn of foot again.

I’ve not looked yet to the run style of Deterministic….
