I'll be surprised if Jim doesn't pack it in after that fall.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Injured Jockeys' Fund said: "Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan were both taken to Leeds General Infirmary Hospital after a fall on the flat at York Racecourse on Sunday afternoon. Jim sustained a pelvic and leg fracture and after initial treatment to stop internal bleeding on Sunday, he underwent surgery yesterday to stabilise his fractures. He is doing well post operation, is in good spirits and will remain in hospital for the time being.

“Trevor has a complex ankle fracture and was placed in a cast in Leeds General Infirmary. He is seeing a specialist ankle surgeon in London today to plan his surgery."

Angus Gold, racing manager to Crowley's employers Shadwell Estate, said: "I spoke to Lucinda his wife yesterday and he’d been operated on. He had a long operation yesterday on his leg and his pelvis.

Whelan confirmed that he had suffered a multiple leg break in a post on X in the early hours of Monday morning. He said: "Thanks for all the get well messages much appreciated I’ve broken my leg in 3 places and due for an operation on it as well."

David Noonan also underwent surgery on Monday to stabilise a leg fracture after he was kicked at the start at Fontwell on the same afternoon.

“All three jockeys will require prolonged recovery and rehabilitation. They are extremely grateful for the excellent care they received from the medical teams on the racecourses and would like to thank everybody for their concern,” the IJF added.

Sadly I very much doubt JC will be back in the saddle. Fingers crossed for the other two.

the irony of them being former jump jockeys as well

And not the first time Crowley has been involved in a serious incident on the Flat as he was one of the jockeys that came down in the horrific fall in which Freddy Tylicki suffered his life-changing injuries.

So at the age of 47, even if he recovers fully from his injuries, it must be an enormous challenge mentally to risk going through that sort of scenario for a third time.

I think Jim will pack in, retainers string getting smaller, less  runners in the major races, cant see him scratching around for many outside rides
at the smaller tracks during the week and doesnt seem to get many rides for the bigger trainers or even the up and coming ones.

Jim, gives me the impression he'd relish the Training game
