Extracts from https://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2025/08/24/emma-raducanu-vs-ena-shibahara... (£££)

Emma Raducanu’s rich vein of form, including her first US Open victory since 2021, has coincided with the addition of a chiropractor to her team who likens her character to that of a horse.

Jerome Poupel, who has worked with both racehorses and Formula One drivers, joined new coach Francis Roig in Raducanu’s box for her 68-minute 6-1, 6-2 opening-round win over Ena Shibahara.

Poupel has been practising since 1994, and among other roles is a functional neurologist for racehorses, including Long Run, who won the 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

He has also worked with members of the New Zealand rugby team and as a celebrity healer to many, including Russell Brand. Poupel has treated Raducanu since at least December 2024, but has not joined her box until Flushing Meadows.

“He said that my character is similar to a horse,” Raducanu said when asked about Poupel’s previous experience.

“Can be quite stubborn, dig their heels in. He’s got experience. Hopefully he can read me.

“And also [horses] kind of wear their emotion on their sleeve. If they’re not feeling like they want to do something they probably won’t do it.

“I’m just happy to have him around. He’s got so much different, diverse experience that it’s great to have that insight.”

“I’ve had back problems for the last year, so he’s [Poupel] just really helped with that,” Raducanu said. “As I’ve been playing more tennis and training more, it’s just important for me to stay on top of that. It’s cool, you know, he’s worked in F1, he’s worked with horses, so it’s very different. I’m just enjoying having him around. He’s a great calm, but eccentric kind of character.”

She walks like she's ridden a few.

strange comment, she walks perfectly normally, seems your bit of an attention seeker, and extremely unfunny.

Come on acey, that's just attention seeking. You should really start a thread titled 'BENT' calling out a jockey after you've done your dough. Maybe john42 could advise.

Bow-legged? Pigeon-toed perhaps. Has she not had ankle injuries in the past?

Many soccerballists have bow legs, so it is possible. Can't say I watch a lot of tennis.
