Initially had Ombudsman down as the good thing of the meeting but I noticed this will be his first time racing left handed. No reason why he shouldn't be equally as good racing this way but still, quite interesting I thought. Still used him as the first leg of a York L15.

Any thoughts on the race lads?

He did look good in Meydan NEC. Calandgan was prob a touch under par that day but he did win very well.

Did the pacemaker run out of petrol or did Havlin panic when he realised he might win?

Would connections be tempted to go for the Arc after that? The Champion stakes does look the better fit but I think the Arc looks a very winnable race for horse with the class of this lad

I had a little bit for fun on Birr Castle after the other recent pacemaker upsets - traded out IR but only down to 100 - I wasn't expecting him to go that close or short.

I layed Quirat at Goodwood and I had laid Birr Castle today and I was thinking "Oh not again". I think Buick and others got luckier today.

That's the issue, would the trip stretch him and blunt his turn of foot? But he wasn't stopping today or at Ascot, he actually won going away that day.

WD Whippin.

I did wonder why Godolphin with another 130 horses in training in the UK had to bring a pacemaker from France. Gave everyone a fright from a typical Havlin ride. As Ramruna said, did he panic?

He barely gets the 10f in a truly run race over that distance. Yes I say that despite having two of his wins over the trip.

@ramruma

"Did the pacemaker run out of petrol or did Havlin panic when he realised he might win?"

Ran out of petrol I think, judging by sectionals on Racing UK - Ombudsman and Delacroix began closing him down after 6f.

To think the well beaten Godolphin colt outworked the pacemaker! Crazy

Cualificar has worked well under Goyen ahead of the Deauville Group 2, went with Birr Castle and easily went by over 1,800.

It was fairly close to another Gp 1 embarrassment for the principal runners and jockeys; Havlin and Birr Castle nearly nicked it, I believe. Even though beaten and finished 3rd, the other jockeys allowed Havlin too much of a soft lead - I hope the data eg ratings supports it.
