Certainly does not provide anything for attendees , TV viewers and absolutely nothing for punters. A Group 1 worth £340K to the winner and only four runners with the possibility of a further withdrawal if the ground is deemed unsuitable for Estrange the second favourite.

The BHA stating why more money is being pumped in at the top end and recently cancelling a race ( Over jumps I think) with a similar entry citing not enough runners. Plenty on here are critical about the Racing League and fair comments about the team element, the fact is though that those races provide decent quality, decent fields, decent prize money and excellent betting opportunities.

Trying to plead about finances and attract new audiences certainly not a good look from the Yorkshire Oaks for the BHA in comparison?

£600K race.
At least O'brien runs his horses most of the time.

what is the reason ? not enough horses thought good enough to declare ? ground? lack of ambition ? scared of getting beat ?
very embarrassing.

£16k for 5th and £8k for 6th is obviously not enough for some owners/trainers.

The Group 1 horses are in very few hands and those owners rarely want to run 2 or 3 in the same race. We also have clashes which mean that Sea The Fire can only run in the Juddmonte or the Yorks Oaks. Kalpana could have run in one of them but she seems to be aiming for the Arc after a low key prep somewhere. The disparity in prize money between the top 10 races and the rest is far too big and allows Aiden O'Brien to win the GB Trainers champs with about 25 wins in a year. It is the low number of runners in the class 5 and 6 races which is even more worrying as they have much less to lose. 4 in the first at Brighton today.

Could be worse , if Estrange is pulled out and Aidan decides to pull his two out due excess criticism of having too many runners in races , then it'll be a walkover  Grin

At least that may waken up connections as to thinking why not take our chances and not to be frightened off by goat's and reputations.

Come on trainers you know who you are.

Agree with akajak , big big trouble.

Maybe they should have a strike against their own incompetence in running the sport?

Hope the 2 jollies both get beat then the other trainers/owners that didnt take part will be kicking themselves.

I confess to not knowing the total cost of entering but the prize money surely enough to entice a couple of Group 2 performers with the added bonus of getting black type for hitting the frame? As it is AOB is getting both if Estrange is withdrawn and it will be there in future sales catalogues for any offspring regardless of the actual value of the form.

Akajak poised a very pertinent question regardless if there is a paucity of top GP 1 fillies, nothing ventured, nothing gained for owners and trainers of fillies just below the top level?

There was 150/1 of The Sussex Stakes.

Anything can happen if your prepared to have a go.

Paul Kellaway or Clive Brittain might have put one in in days gone by.

Thanks T2R, so maybe a small gamble but even finishing 6th would more or less cover the entry. The reason I mentioned Needle Gun after barstool mentioned Clive was that the horse won less than £50K in win money but over half a million in place money. As barstool said, the likes of Clive would probably have taken the gamble knowing it was not going to be a big field.

Part of what's ruining Racing currently is lack of competition. The flat boys dont want to harm their reputations or are just scared of taking on AOB. Over the jumps we have horses by-passing races at Cheltenham from the same stable to target lesser pots diluting the championship races (though the additional races have invited this). The public want to see the best race against the best and currently are being deprived of this and it needs to be addressed otherwise the game will just become another minority sport (which it currently is not far off).

Estrange looks set to line up. Surprising but could be they're smelling blood from the form shown by coolmores runners. Not a lot to lose given they have ready made excuse.

Post the repeated dismal runs of AOB's shorties recently I think Minnie Hauk will need to be odds against for value. Her last run did not inspire utmost confidence either.

Imho Minnie could win this wearing lead shoes. She is likely to improve herself.  If the others keep her to two lengths they’ll be doing well.  In fact, if she doesn’t win by two lengths or more I’ll do an acey.  Laugh  and leave the forum.  Then come back!  Wink
