Betfred quoted rules ' As you can see from the racing post results page by the (RR) code that Highwaygrey refused to race under starters orders. Once the race starter calls the horses under orders all participants will be deemed as runners. These are the industries rules and not Betfred rules. I have attached the industries rules surrounding 'Refused to Race' below italicising the specific rule for you reference. I appreciate this is unfortunate and not the outcome you was hoping for. I do wish you all the luck in the world with any future selections'. Berkshire hunts!

They were correct Tom.
If you had backed the winner and got a Rule 4 deduction you would be rightly aggrieved. It's the luck of the draw |

I was at Ponty yesterday and backed Highway Grey and then Cosmos Raj. Failed to start and stone last respectively!! But that is the luck of the draw.
However, the stewards were off kilter at Ponty because Highway Grey only came into the parade ring after the jockeys. It did not complete a full circle of the parade ring. Yet, nothing (as per normal) was said. For all we know, the horse may have been giving issues in the stables beforehand and that played a part in it refusing to race. It would have been nice for the stewards to have looked at what went on as a whole just to keep the public fully aware. |
