Spoke to one bookie at York and he said the way it works with him is you bet with your card and he pays your winnings in cash. Unlike many I don't like that. ( but better than losing u could say ) Anyone had winnings paid back to their card ?
thanks jimnast. I wonder how the high rollers play. Are the bookies allowed to give credit without a card ? I guess yes because how could they be stopped and of course they bet with each other.

There wouldn’t be any problem giving credit and certainly wouldn’t be against the rules and in some cases I would imagine it suits both the backer and the layer.

Star told me you CANNOT play with money in your online account on the racecourse. My guess is that racecourse winnings won't be put in your online account but looks like I will have to phone them to check.

Howard,I had an account with Star which was closed in May,2022. The A/C lasted 5 months. They will take a chunky bet and will give you a spin but, once it is clear that they are unlikely to beat you they effectively close you via enhanced affordability checks. When I was On Course I simply phoned them the same as being at home that got round it

If one has a winning bet on course using a DEBIT card the winnings and the stake are returned in cash. Thus is what happened yesterday at Brighton and at Goodwood last week.
I use this method when going racing as it saves me having to lie to the guys on Metro bank when they ask what you intend to do with the money when you wish to withdraw your own money!
I once told metro bank staff member I was going Plumpton races when they asked why I wanted to withdraw £600 and I was told I could have a chat with a member of staff who was 'alert to gambling problems'.
At present I have ample funds in my metro accounts but don't wish to have some black mark placed on my accounts as a degenerate gambler!

ken I have opened another debit card account with a different bank to my other banks. If they close it no problem. Don't think they will tell the other banks.
But you say that you use your card at the races to place the bet. Doesn't this identify as a bet on your statement or is it like purple that don't use their name or they are such a small firm /sole trader that the bank doesn't know who they are ?

"I once told metro bank staff member I was going Plumpton races when they asked why I wanted to withdraw £600" That was quite a schoolboy error ken but we all make them from time to time.
