I’m not sure why Fieldd Of Gold is rated higher than Ombudsman. FOG has beaten very little to date, yet the latter beat proven Group 1 performers.

That aside if there’s one track I’d take the grey on on is Goodwood.

He didn’t perform, the dip was used spin the Guineas as an excuse for being out ridden, we know how that worked out!

He also flopped at Longchamp on the downhill toboggan.

Might this be why Diamond is eyeing the Marois, pancake flat track short of a mile?

I think Mr Gosden had a slight dig at Buick (cannot remember which big race) when connections used him as a replacement in a big Group race. But, big John always does that. Big John could be disingenuous too with his charges on injury and target for his horses eg So Mi Dar (Irish Oaks) and Jack Hobbs (Prince  Of Wales/Coronation Stakes).

Every run now is tarnishing his reputation and lowering his price in the breeding shed.

I think Shoemark enhanced the horse's reputation in defeat. Now, his true potential has been exposed in public. Another failure in The Lockinge, assuming he turns up, will hurt his breeding shed value enormously.

I do not think Field Of Gold is even on the same level as Palace Pier let alone Baaed or Kingman. The horses he beat have over-rans since.
