A bit warmer in the Arab countries where they originated from. 3 miles over fences would be asking a lot but flat is fine.

Think they coped well enough in 76 Acey, much more horse welfare now, hosing down after race, buckets of water readily available. 2 miles for a horse in the summer heat should be well within there capabilities.
