Regarding the negative posts about backing each way at 7/2 etc. I'm an on course bookmaker. You are very welcome to come and look at the decimation in my book with these 8 and 9 runner novice hurdles when it's 1/2 the field and the 2nd favourite 7/2 or 4/1 and is 1.2 a place. Which is why we're not 7/2 - 4/1 the 2nd fav but enough on course bookmakers are. These are the make up of races he talks about backing each way on course - not anything blindly at 7/2. If you think that's a mug bet I would be very happy for you to lay me these all day - I'd never need to leave the house. And if you tried to back this sort of thing with 365 your account would last about 10 minutes.
One incredibly shrewd on course bookmaker backed an 11/10 shot each way recently on course (2.12 in the win book on Betfair). It was 1.06 a place. He got pelters for it - the place part of the bet was as good a value bet as you'll see.

he,s on course punter with ex,s, ,he,s not going to pack in punting if he goes on a 30 bet run losing, because he backs his judgement, including his EX,S 3 out of every 5 of these so called filthy ew bets have to win or he,s losing anyway,so why lose 40% on your winning dirty ew bets, if enough dont win ie 65% of them all he,s doing backing ew is extending the period before he runs out of money

1stTP you are making a lot of assumptions about what this guy does but do you actually know what his bets are? I have no idea and never heard of him but the so called experts on here have been derisive about ew punting like you have but few if any bet like that exclusively.
Maybe he sees an ew as preferable to an odds on shot on occasion making sense, check the competitions on here and you will see how backing odds on shots is a quicker way to bankruptcy than an occasional ew against them?

So he doesn't arb (which I think is the right decision) but if you look at the arbing options he would have if he chose to do so, he could just take the profit on every one. If you're backing something at, say, 4/1 on course and the win book is say, 5.3 there's a small negative there but he's got half his bet on the place at, say, 1.8 when it's often around 1.2 a place. I can assure you that if we laid £500 each way in this scenario our book value would be absolutely annihilated. Therefore the punter has tons of value.
If the punter laid his £500 stake at 1.2 it's costing him £100. He stands to win £400 for the place part of his bet. The value is insane.

if you listen to the interview tagged on here,he countsa 3,s/7 to 2 place as a o,6% win, where i,d count it as a 0.4% loss,he,s swapped a £200 for £160 he,ll then argue he has the win part and has done with me ,in that scenario in my eyes he,s swapped £800 return for a £560 return and like a say oncourse punter like him with ex,s, 65% of thses so alled filthy ew bets have to win anyway or else he,s losing all a matter of opinion

CagliariG - I only know him from him being on course and laying him from time to time so I know how he bets but it's not up to me to share that. I'm talking generally that if you are backing 1.2 - 1.3 place shots at 1.7 - 1.8 you are going to win over time regardless of how you play it unless the win part of the bet is terrible value. As I say, feel free to come on course when there's a 1/3 shot in an 8 or 9 runner race and I'll show you the damage to our book if we went these sort of prices however a number of books will and there is value to be found.

I don't feel strongly - I just saw it on Twitter as I don't come on these forums. I thought I would try to explain from a bookmaker's point of view. I did my best. See you in another 13 years. Good luck

It's not difficult to those willing to get off their backsides and makes things happen...
Shops Syndicate Take SP
The ones aware of such a strategy usually end up moaning anyway because they're too lazy and expect to play them like any other bet on their internet accounts , in other words want everything to fall on their lap instead of finding solutions instead of problems.

i used to do it meself and was happy to take sp because you can get on, within reason, as im sure you know, and they were often put in artificialy short. best i ever had; hendo beast 6/1 in novice hurdle against 1/3 jolly. didnt take it and returned 18/1 winner. totes amazeballs
but the margins have shrunk since the sp mechanism changed and also, i rarely get up before 2 pm

Hayden - thanks. Tried to explain to folk who don't get each way value. You can lead a horse to water but if they don't want to bet 1/10 shots at 1/4 you can't make them drink...

Mitolo - we are a small independent bookmaker. We trade as Cairn Bet. Mainly Scottish tracks with the odd trip to Newcastle for their big days. Also work Aintree Grand National, Cheltenham Festival (by Guinness Village) and Royal Ascot (Windsor Enclosure). We blog when we work - combination of betting review of our books, poor jokes and surreptitiously hidden indie lyrics. If you're interested just Google Cairn Bet and you'll find our nonsense- I won't post a link as that's poor form.
SP poor value now it's generated off course, as you say, at the top of the market. Can almost guarantee prices bigger on course than SP at 10/1 or shorter. Overround made to look better than it is by sticking rags at 250/1 which takes up a tiny fraction of the market.

ricardo doesnt know what pretension means. you are a charmless oik. you know nothing about anything and people who know nothing believe anything. thats why you are also a conspiracy mug. crackpot richard d hall is your idea of an intellectual. the only book in your house is by howard marks. by your own admission you are only on here because you are bored. what a startling lack of imagination that you cant think of anything else to do with yourself

No eye deer why he’s betting a 5yo in a 0-62, 5 furlong Sprint at Hamilton at 6/4 ffs
Sometimes you slip a few short favs in so the bookies keep taking your bets...gives 'em hope that they will win in the long run. HF and his mate did it. Kidology.

He picks a 6yo rated 58 with 37 runs, completely exposed, no edge Not an improver, be hard to accept a free bet on it, well beat 9s
Then one of goldies, who pulled up last time, pulled up again, tailed off fs
No reason or edge to back any of his, ok im stating nox This bloke hadnt got a fcuking clue, bluffée/guesser. 3 months I’ll give him

Why don't you go head to head with him over the next 4 weeks, Poncho. Evey bet you have, put it up here BEFORE the race. Points staked. Then you can show him up for the charlatan he is.

You will learn nothing watching these wannabe pro punters, better off teaching yourself, start with looking at the results and learning to understand why a horse won that race today, this type of media will lead you up the garden path.

This lad has been around a lot longer than many of you seem to realise the best part of 20 years ago he was working for his uncle a racecourse bookmaker
As an annual member at haydock I was very pleased to have him as our liaison person and I can tell you the reciprocal fixtures he got for us were amazing as I said in my earlier post on here I have no idea about his tipping capabilities but I do know he is a very helpful lad and when I bump into on course you always get a laugh with him
I for one Hope he stands the test of time very few have

the first one was a 13/8 shot ( weak ) against an extremely well backed horse that is worth following. The second was an 8 race maiden 20/1 shot. If those are your best examples of pre-race betting it's just as well you don't do it.
Most successful punters operate in the 3/1 to 10's/12s range so wouldn't have been on either horse.

Just a fellow punter trying to win a few quid. Isn't that what most on here are trying to do....me included?

betting SP after 9 0 clock on race day is now for the birds or available on a vanishingly small ans shrinking amount of races, taking a price and getting BOG off on every race/selection SD puts up as he advertises in his selection pieces is obviously not a serious recomendition for 99% of punters

"ewe in the 3/1 > 10/1 range howey?" Yes but not often a "straight " backer. Lay / Lay to back etc. If you say it's very hard I agree but I believe a few people have made decent money just from their judgement. eg. Alan Potts who used to post on the forum and wrote a couple of very good books. I think most punters try to nick what they see as value from the bookies early ricks BOG special offers etc. In reality you have to take advantage of overbet horses ie. mistakes from other punters.

100 so called over priced horses every week, there overpriced for a reason 99.9% of them get beat, every man and his dog thought they,d beat the book to some extent on 6 or 7 horse in decent grade races on a sat card at weekend ,won one at 6to 5 best available earier in week 5 to 2, and thatlooked beaten everywhere but the line or else it would have been a wipe out, most people arnt interested in horses so called out running their WRONG PRIVE ,finishing out of the places

A mate of mine thought if the board says 8/11 I will ask for an even £1000. Thought the bookie ( h1lls ) would turn him down and was worried when bet accepted. Couldn't lose face so bet was on. But it's an example of someone thinking they are getting value. Luckily for him horse won.

this was 30+ years ago when a grand was worth a touch more. I think he placed a few big footie bets and was a golden spurs client whatever that meant. Top mug probably. He wanted to show the racecourse rep he was a big player without putting any money down. Didn't think for a second the bet would be taken. It's not the next price is it ? It's called ego I would say. What he didn't realise is if they think you're a mug you can have anything on and maybe not quite at any price but keep 'em happy.

his thinking is if 8/11 is on all the boards and money is being taken at that price if you get evens you have got value. Very dumb of course. The horse might still not be value at evens. As I say this one won.

Don't know if the fella is going to come back but want to give the CairnBet guy some props as I really enjoy reading his blogs and wish there were more of them.
Also, like the fellow poster, some sadness that I am London-based and unlikely to make the trek to Hexham to meet and share Indie-based puns on track. But appreciate you trying to educate, and entertain, the masses
