RIP, if you want to see how what happens when a plan goes well watch the 1990 Cambridgeshire, Risen Moon.

My mate’s old man paid off his mortgage on Frankincense.  He can still remember him pacing around the garden as he awaited the outcome.  He bet it a/p at all prices.  Never did find out how he got the inspiration.

Alongside Geoff Wragg, Barry Hills was one of the great old school trainers.

His gambling advice was:

* never bet each way
* never be afraid of a price.

Great trainer and a really nice man. I joined the Racegoers Club way back when it started in 1970 and one of their first stable tours was Southbank in 1971. Rheingold and Our Mirage were unraced at he time and we were left in no doubt that they were destined for the top.

top trainer, certainly not one to be messed with and of course the drive force behind the great Steve Cauthen coming over in late 70s
RIP and condolences to a fine racing family

Very reliable for the punter usually if one of his finished second in maiden it would win next day , the punter couldn't complain too much bout him but unfortunately it's nigh impossible to gauge charlies horses impossible for punter to know when is day , I think myself charlie will never achieve even quarter what  barry did but maybe I'll be wrong on on that

Sad news at Doncaster the real ale bar is dedicated to him lots of memorabilia regarding his career,my favourite Barry hills horse was red clubs who won the Coventry stakes at York and finished his racing in the uk with a win in the haydock park sprint also as already posted he brought Steve Cauthen over to give so many so much pleasure in the 80s.

A quote from Steve Cauthen
