New computer

I recently bought an Apple laptop.  No microsoft, no windows but Betfair vids, you tube, poker games/sites and other things all very acceptable.  A touch un-instant at times but only at certain things.  Can find the model name if required.  Price ok at around 350.

Get an IPad. Plenty good enough for what you need. Saves having a laptop sat on your lap.

Rico advised me Celtic , he explained the specifications needed then found the appropriate make and model online , that was a couple of years ago and still running like a dream at good value   

Sry, I still call this a laptop.  It is in fact an iPad.

I got a chromebook, cheap and does enough for my needs.

Loads of cheap laptops will do what you want.

Pop into somewhere like curry's to fire them up to see if you like operating system
and check online price...

Acer Aspire 3 for £279 most probably at Curry’s should be fine.

id recommend a chromebook.....they are blistering quick, even average one's are quicker than what will look like a better windows spec laptop....No windows updates, no security issues as security is inbuilt and you have the google play store on the chromebook.

ive not bought a windows machine in well over a decade...Do have an ipad , but much prefer my chromebook(s).....my current one is an hp elite dragonfly chromebook plus amongst others...its a beast....backlit, touchscreen, 4k screen and so quick....

Cannot install trading software on a Chromebook, nor on an IPad without VPS.

OP mentioned Raceform Interactive so go for Windows laptop rather than Chromebook or Ipad.

Of the two options I just plumped for the latter (not for trading but would be fine for it). More powerful processor, plenty more data storage, better WiFi hardware, nicer chassis, and full version of windows 11 (the cheaper option is Windows 11S which you would have to update to Windows 11).

if you dont have trading software, honestly, its a no brainer to make your next laptop a chromebook imo.

I should add that I've only been looking at light and portable 13"-14" options. There may well be better value 15+" options out there.

You should be able to get something of decent quality for a few hundred quid.

There are so many affordable laptops about eg Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Samsung and others. These are my preferred brands. One can get a decent new one including Chromebooks for about £350 (£450 normally) in any promotion/offer online; refurbished (as new/opened not used) are even cheaper. And, everyone of these can last (sensibly usage) at least 3/5 years.

Chromebook is good as it does not encourage regular software updates.

I bought a 2nd hand Microsft Surface off Ebay for £158.69 (a real bargain) but I have to wait until November 7th for delivery which is irritating me.

One reason might be that older models cannot run Windows 11 and would that explain the 7/11 delivery date which on the face of it is so ridiculous I fear I've been whooshed by a subtle joke? Windows 10 end-of-support is mid-October.

Without knowing the spec, it is hard to say if £160 is cheap.

Usually but this winter it is possible that the Windows 10 end-of-life will mean a glut of Windows 10 machines coming on to the second hand market.

Mini PCs are they way to go. Bought one myself earlier this year and I've had absolutely no complaints.

Same here robust chassis is vitally important to me.

You see brand new £800 laptops with flimsy plastic construction.
