Not like Jamie to muck up on the best horse

What i cant understand is why the trainer would do a great job of getting the horse into a big handicap with a few pounds in hand then risk it all by putting Frank on it. Makes no sense. They must surely have known it  might finish with a wet sail but too late.

Last season he gave one of the worst-judged rides I've ever seen, at Ascot on Champions Day in the closing handicap on Witch Hunter.

He had a lovely position, particularly so based on how the big sprint earlier on the card had panned out, with it being absolutely no issue to challenge down the nearside. He had cover and the clear run down the outer was there if and when he wanted it, but he had to go inside to find a tough passage through.

But here's the thing, the good position that Frank voluntarily vacated, was then taken by Christophe Soumillon on the eventual winner, who evidently thought it was a good spot to be in.

Then, as Soumi' was having an unimpeded passage down the nearside on his way to victory, Frank was having to weave a passage before running on into third place.

I get his M.O, keep hold of them, get them covered up, conserve their energy and get them to finish, but this looked like complicating it for complicating it sakes, imo Crazy

Just had a look back at today's ride, he got a 2 day ban

An enquiry was held to consider interference one furlong out involving LA BOTTE, placed second, ridden by Jamie Spencer, and THUNDER WONDER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Joe Fanning. Spencer was suspended for 2 days for careless riding for switching left-handed into an insufficient gap causing Fanning to have to take a check against the rail.

Tbh, imo, I wouldn't be critical because he just didn't get the gaps rather than he made a bad choice and he's ended up having to force one open. The other thing I'd say in his defence on this occasion, is that they didn't go a mad gallop and pace was generally holding up well on the day.

Think he loves the 'genius jockey' plaudits he gets, when his 'last-to-first' pays off.

But these days that's a rare occasion.
The clock in his head isn't what is once was.

Spencer is racing's equivalent of football's Roberto Carlos who scored one brlliant free kick and was forever associated with it despite numerous subsequent failings when attempting the same thing.

Spencer's tournoi moment came on Cesare in the Hunt Cup way back in 2006!!!!

Personally if I see Frank Spencer or Jim Crowley on a horse I fancy, I tell myself to be realistic and put a line through it. 8 for Franks so far this year and 20 for Jimbo.

Why do Hamdam's jockeys keep their jobs for so long when clearly they should retire?

Do fancy Gold Digger in the first mind you, let's see if the forum curse is alive and well!!Grin

Big fancy in the first

Fluffed the start (deliberately?) and sat out the back

Given far too much to do when effort made

Very frustrating, but trainers love him
Report Poppydog. June 20, 2025 2:36 PM BST
Finished 6th - think Gold Digger is a very decent horse
Report duffy June 20, 2025 2:37 PM BST
Yep, usual deliberately missed it 3 lengthsSad
Report CaptainCristy June 20, 2025 2:37 PM BST
Posing on it 2furlongs doesn’t help either, what an idiot
Report brians June 20, 2025 2:37 PM BST
Frank has done it again! Gave them 10 lengths start in a 6 furlong race. No way of getting that back. Finished 5th behind a horse he-beat last time out.
I give up, and so should he.
Report CaptainCristy June 20, 2025 2:37 PM BST
2 furlongs out.

5 winners from 120+ rides in the past 5 years at Ascot.

A lot of them on decent horses
Report GLASGOWCALLING June 20, 2025 2:49 PM BST
The winner has only ran once BRIANS and won.
