I have to say that the coverage on ITV today was the worst that I’ve ever seen!

Who cares for an interview with Penny Lancaster and whoever that was with her?

How can you miss the start to the Kings Stand???.

Very poor and it’s like they skipped from race to race for the bookies on a Saturday without showing us any horses.

I didn’t like Baldin but her and Carson put these lot to shame. Disgraceful from the Beeb to ditch what they were actually great at.

They were terrible and I hope that they realise how shocking it was to miss the start of a Group 1 because they were so focused on one horse.

they really talk down to people watching like they are halfwits. If you watch the football you don’t expect to be told what the offside law is or who exactly is Pep Guardiola but that is the sort of dumbed down level they are at.

Given that they were seemingly trying to portray the meeting as something for everyone thought that was brilliant when Oily braved the toffs picnic area.

If the King Stand was first evidence of less tolerance of unruly behaviour behind the stalls, I'm all for it. Fine the trainers as well. I would have every confirmed Royal Ascot runner pass a stalls test. Yes, there would be more non-runners but why not have more reserves and confirm the final decs on the eve of the race, as they used to?

I haven't seen the first day so poorly attended for a generation (admittedly from tv).

One of the great bugbears of viewers is the spectacle of horses being forced against their will into stalls: their message is that they don't want to do this and for the wider audience - who are watching the loading process for longer than they are watching the race - the pre-race spectacle them uncomfortable. Or bored. It's obvious.

Watched it in the pub today and overall its getting worse and worse

Get Gary Wiltshire or Simon Nott in the ring at least they both know the layers and get some comments from them, might never be as good as Big Mac but must be an improvement on Brian Gleeson.

Don't need Luke Harvey down at the start fumbling about what does he bring to the table?

Chapman is Chapman and at least he is passionate about the game.

Mentioned this name before as she was an excellent pundit who found many big priced winners during her stint on Aus racing and had a good following over in Oz.

Lizzie Jelphs started out working at racing yards in Lambourn and was a former pro tennis player and won the Magnolia Cup at Goodwood  Festival she worked for many years in Aus with trainer David Hayes. She knows her horses!

Think Big Ed got lucky getting his role on the show but think about time his luck run out.
Would replace him with Nick Luck if he was available and wanted the job.

I love horse racing and watch races from most tracks most days but producers of this programme need wise up but while I'm typing this they all probably in some top hotel near Ascot all patting each other on the back thinking they produced an excellent show!

If they are going to bother to show the sing-song then you would think it would be obligatory to actually join in. Has Francesca ever sang a note? Perhaps Persad and Francesca could make up for today's debacle by duetting tomorrow?

Why all the criticism?? They are not perfect and I like some of the regulars ,not all ,but people reminiscing about the old BBC coverage with Wilson O'Sullivan,Lindley , Pitman etc forget that it was very dry and humourless actually .There is at least a bit of banter nowadays .

Snowy - what else used to really píss me off about BBC coverage was that they didn't give a shít about
showing us recordings of off-air races at big meetings they were covering...or the top foreign stuff.

We could all see just how much of an irritation Royal Ascot was to the BBC production team who were obviously
so peeved to leave the cricket and rejoin coverage of a top race as the last nag was entering the stalls,
but all we ever used to hear was that they were fully committed to racing...but they most definitely were NOT.

They'd regularly show you a recording of the last 100 yards of a top race, which was infuriating & inexcusable
(though we were lucky to get that!) - then Ch4 Racing came along and embarrassed BBC's shít coverage as they
were a breath of fresh air, with a panel of fully committed racing enthusiasts who aired as much as they could.

I always remember Francome saying how grateful the team were to Ch4 producer Andrew Franklin as he did his utmost
to show us extensive coverage of The Arc meeting & The Breeders' Cup - I don't even know what the guy looks like
but it sounds like real racing fans have him to thank for sending BBC's appalling racing coverage to Room 101.

Snowynoon missing the start of a race because you’re so focused on one runner is atrocious. They fail to show the horses beforehand and it’s something that we should have not just focusing again as they did on Field Of Gold. They should put aside their preferences and by more neutral with regards that.

I like the banter, the team and the time analysis that Hoiles has been doing is very insightful. Racing is a world sport now and has been for a few years and I feel that they could incorporate a section to that. To keep viewers informed. Also enjoy Home Schooling!

Agree that was sloppy camera /direction yesterday missing that ,and they have Luke down at the start who didn't even know the horse was withdrawn !!They could do without him down at start ,agree that brings nothing .

Just watching the Opening Show and am shocked to see Rishi has gone turn coat! Was waxing lyrical about 4/1 for Fallen Angel last weekend and now goes for the Godolphin filly!

Chapman had just interviewed Karl Burk and was also purring about the 4’s! The bookies then cut her!

Yeah not sure what Luke was doing?! Thank goodness the camera wasn’t hard of hearing or he’d not of turned left when he heard the gates open! Laugh
